| Keep her warm? I am a newbie. My puppy will be 9 weeks old when I get her. I was just wondering if I should keep her warm? We have air conditioning, and hubby keeps it pretty cool. Would a warm blanket in her bed be enough, or will I need a heating pad? Never had a small dog before. Please help. |

| well , if you do bring her home at 9 weeks a nice cozy bed in her crate for bedtime would be a good idea. you could even put a sweater on her if you think it is chilly... |

| Let her stay with her mother where she will be warm. 9 weeks is far too young to be away from her mom and siblings.

| I say let hubby be hot than. Baby comes first A heating pad should not be needed. How cool is "pretty cool"? I would give blankets in puppy's sleeping area and put a sweater/clothes on if they appear cold. I never use the central air. I will use a small wall unit when I am sleeping in my room but otherwise no. Roxy and Zoey hate to be cold so they always wear clothes unless it is super hot or bury themselves under blankets. It is recommended pups stay with mom til 12 weeks by the YTCA.

| I agree with letting her stay with her mom as long as possible for her best puppy development. Most say it is best to let them stay with mom for many reasons as their brains are developing so rapidly during these weeks, they need the security and sameness of the mother and territory they are familiar with as they go through things like learning the fear response, discipline from play-biting, etc.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Pups get their warmth from the litter mates where they sleep piled up in order to gain warmth but will adjust to the change in time. I have four Yorkies and central air. Maybe turning the air down a few notches will be necessary to keep her warm, plus the warm blanket to help should be enough. No need to put a sweeter on her or use a heating pad. We all have to make some sacrifice for the ones we love even if it means your hubby will have to wear less clothes to stay cool.
