| Mommas Behaivor Hi everyone. So glad to have found this site. I had a question for you. My female, Sassie has 5 puppies, 5 weeks old. Now that they are older, she doesn't seem very interested in them. I thought she would play with them, and teach them all about being a dog, but she tends to feed them, and leave them. They are eating dog food now, so she only visits them 3 or 4 times a day. If we go outside, she tends to flip them around with her nose and thats it. Is this really strange or not? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| It's funny that you should mention this - my mom is getting a new Border Terrier puppy in a few weeks. We went to visit the breeder when the pups were about 4 weeks old. The breeder said the mom would "start to get sick of her pups soon". We thought it was so odd! But he said that it is natural as the pups get older for the mom to not want to pend as much time with them. This way they learn indepenance and it will be healthier for everyone when the pups go to their new homes. Good luck with everything!

| Hi and welcome .....What? You have pups and you didnt post pics?? Oh my gosh, LOL... I think it's very normal for Mama to not constantly hang around her babies at 5 wks. She is teaching them to be independant more.

| IMO that is weird..but i've never ecperienced anything like that and i dont know anything about breeding etc. Im sure it's ok...it sounds like she's a stressed out mama! lol if you are worried call your vet.
