| Collapsed treachea?? I am learning all I can about yorkies. I can read books and blogs..but you breeders have the first hand knowledge and I would love to hear from you first hand. What and why " collapsed treachea??? " Also my lil guy is having dental surgery next friday. I have heard about yorkies toungs sticking out. Do you think Louie will end up like that if he has up to 10 teeth pulled? I would ask my Vet but she is never available it seems. Thinking on looking for a new vet soon.

| CT can be congenital at birth or from an injury. Weaknees in the rings of the trachea cause it to collapse or flatten in the weak area. His tongue will only stick out if any of the four canine teeth are pulled, esp the lower ones.

| I'm not a breeder but I can tell you that CT can be a genetic problem. The cartilage in the trachea is not formed correctly so the trachea does not function properly. It tends to get worse as time goes by. Maybe you could go to the breeder section and get a better response. You will also find some info in the health and diet area. |

| Hi Jilly, My little Sophie Kate has CT, we found out when she was probably around 6 months old. My Vet is not sure how this happened since we did know her breeder (at the time) and Sophie Kate had a very severe bout with Pneumonia when she was 4 months old which may have caused it. She is not on a daily medication and we control it through diet and exercise (for now). I just have to be very careful and remember to walk her daily and not over feed her. Also checking the progress is part of her yearly examination. Regarding the dental, how old is your little guy? Having ten teeth pulled is A LOT (but it is good that you are doing dentals). I cannot speak for a Yorkie but my cat had his dentals in December and lost 4 teeth and the answer is yes, sometimes his tongue does stick out. It's kind of cute because it is usually when he is sleeping. I will remind you to make sure your little guy can continue on his same kibble after the dentals. I was not thinking with my cat and did not change his food and the poor guy lost so much weight, so fast it scared me to death. Good luck and I hope this provides you some answers.
