| Micro chipping The dog police came around today. They asked if Copper had a license. Yes....they asked if he had been micro chipped. No. Then I was told that in my city it is now required that I have him micro chipped. What I want to know is Why? Why is this mandatory? Who decides this stuff?

| I don't know about loose dog problems. It is a big city. Does micro chipping your dog bother anyone else? This bugs me. Of course I don't want my dog to get lost and not returned. But he does wear a collar with info on it. I'm not crazy about having something injected into my dog.

| Mine are all microchipped, as are my cats. Maybe dog thefts are up in your city. IDK, when you find out why, let us know. I do think GPS tracking should be included inside the microchip. They are really no worse than vaccines. Collars can be removed, chips not so easily.

| I think its wrong for them to tell you that you have to microchip your dog I think it should be a personal choice. I am not thrilled about micro chips either (yes I know there are been some the reunited dogs with owners) one because there are a few different types so if your dog has one type but the person who is checking him with a scanner for another type it wont work and at one point they where talking the chips possibly causing cancer.

This^^^^ I was under the impression that the microchip HAD GPS!!!!! So, if it doesn't have GPS, how exactly does the microchip system work? What's the point then? Someone can still take my dog and I not get her back. Can someone explain how the microchip REALLY works??? | |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | All my dogs are microchiped, all the puppies that leave my home are microchiped,it does NOT hurt the dog, only rare instances of the dog's inmune system rejecting the microchip have been reported. I follow most of the reports. To me is one more way of making sure that this dog is returned to his rightful owner if ever gets stolen or lost. NOW on the other hand, I hate the fact that the Goverment, is TELLING you what you have to do, it should be YOUR choice. the bigger the goverment, bigger and more mandates we get.. hugs, and no the microchip does not have GPS, it needs to be scan with a special scaner, and it shows a number, when you register that number with a company like pet link the person who scans calls the registry and your informations pups up. hugs, Last edited by carmen in nj; 03-22-2012 at 06:01 AM. |

| I don't know who decides it, but it is better in my opinion to have your pets microchipped. You have a greater chance of getting them back if they ever run away or get stolen. I got my Huck micro chipped for a $20 donation at a local animal shelter, a heck of a lot cheaper than what his vet would of charged me. |

| My dogs are microchipped however I dont think the City should require you to put a microchip in your dog, That is a matter of choice

| Chips are perfectly safe. Jackson has one and I wouldn't have a dog without one. However, I think it's your choice and shouldn't be made mandatory.

A GPS microchip is not possible, yet, so I really think it'd be an amazing thing when and if it happens. The only problem with this is that it's an active device, vs. a passive chip. An active device like GPS transmitter needs a battery, a dog chip doesn't.
