| Scariest thing ever! I haven't posted here in forever but wanted to share a scare with you all. On Jan 3rd my baby girl was vomiting and just wanted to lay on or close to me. Jan 4th she stopped vomiting but still was not acting like herself. I took her to the vet and he did an xray and put her on an antibiotic hopping maybe just a minor infection since nothing had shown up on the xray. The 5th I thought maybe she was doing a bit better, then on the 6th I got up and she wouldn't hardly move. She just wanted me to hold her. I had her in my arms and she looked up at me and I knew she was dying in my arms. I called the vet and told him he had to see her now. Rushed her in and he agreed. He did a few test and another xray. This time the xray shown she had eaten something. I was at a loss as to what it could be. We are so cautious. The vet asked if she could have gotten a hold of a tampon in the last few days. Relieved I was like no way. He then told me he would have to do surgery right away. I gave her lots of kisses and off she went. Eighty three minutes later (I didn't leave) he came to get me and said she HAD eaten a tampon. I was like no way, I couldn't image where she would have gotten it. I knew it wasn't mine or either of my daughters. (I'll spare the details of our cycles) So sick to my stomach I go home for a bit and I'm talking to a friend and she is like OMGosh, it could have been mine. I opened one realized I didn't need it and tossed it in the trash. Sad, upset, and worried I was relieved to know where it came from. I do not blame my friend and I'm not angry with her, but I am very cautious now when someone walks out of one of the bathrooms here. My Tori the day before surgery!

| That's so scary! I hate seeing trash in a trashcan and fear Tibbe accessing it so I always empty my bathroom trash containers just as soon as my company leaves the house! I am just so glad that you got her help ASAP as she would have no doubt died without the surgery. Good mama! She is just beautiful. What a lovely little girl you have.

I was shocked when my vet told me that he puts many pups down for this. That many people wont pay for the surgery. I couldn't imagine letting one of my girls go for money. I felt so guilty and responsible for her getting into something without me noticing. I am so anal about keeping bathroom trash cans empty too. Specially since our Lexi likes to eat paper.

| Omg how scary. I was just about to ask if she was ok, but it looks like she is. I am so glad to hear that. How scary. My daughter is new to the woman scene. I am going to have to sit down and talk with her to make sure she understands to always leave no trace. I am so glad your baby is ok!! And thanks for posting this to make ppl like me aware of how dangerous they are. |

| Oh my goodness! That is scary for sure. Thank you for sharing. Since Jack is usually by us, I never think of him getting into the garbage but I will keep a closer eye on him now in the future. So glad to hear a happy ending and that your little girl made it through surgery okay.

| Thank Goodness she's okay! Glad you got her back in to see the vet in time! Yes, this is very common. Yorkies love bathroom trash the best, I think. I always use a can with a lid, both in the bathroom and the kitchen. They are not the most stylish, and don't go with the decor... but I feel safer this way...

| Thank you all!! She is doing great now... We use a metal trash can with a lid but smart girl knows how to open it.

| Oh, I'm so glad you saved her! These little ones are just like having babies in the house! How awful. It's a wonder she didn't choke on it! I had to get rid of the little trash basket in my bathroom because Gracie loves to tip it over and steal anything paper or plastic related in it. She just has a thing about paper and plastic and loves to chew them. I have never given a thought to sanitary items but, gosh, they are in that category! I'm so glad you insisted your vet see her and did not wait until they could get around to it. Your insistence helped to save her. I hope she had a quick and complete recovery. |

| Wow. Didn't know about this subject. I use the step on trashcans because of Copper. After I caught him getting into the trash, I went out and bought them. Hmmm....I should put one in the guest bathroom too. I am so sorry for your baby. It is very scary when they are sick. Thanks for posting your experience. It is another warning to all of us too. Best wishes to you both.
