Switching diet and Chicken mania I am currently in the process of switching Teegy to a raw diet. On the advice of my vet she said start with cooked chicken first and work the raw in gradually. Well I have been roasting breast, thighs and drumsticks, then filling the roasting pan with distilled water and cooking for another hour. I let it sit in the fridge and the liquid becomes chicken gelee. Then I've deboned and shredded the chicken and mushed in the gelee. Teegy gets that with some cottage cheese mixed in, with a bit of warm warm and he goes absolutely mental. I have never seen him so excited about dinner. I mean he loves a raw lamb chop and a bit of chopped up ribeye, but he moans and whines at my feet waiting for it to be prepped. So even as I proceed to adding the raw in I'm not ever taking away the chicken mix as he loves it. Anyone else had similar experiences with a food item?

When Gracie was a puppy I cooked for her because she refused to eat kibble. She does love chicken but I always boil her chicken and she gets skinless chicken with a small amount of broth. I try not to over do the fat in her diet. Now I am feeding a commercial raw diet but I do mix vegetables and raw meat and eggs for her occasionally. Are you planning on continuing to make her food or are you going to switch her to a commercial raw diet? Gracie improved greatly once she went on the raw diet but I feel better knowing she is getting a balanced diet by purchasing from a reputable raw pet food producer. It's a lot easier on me as well. You really need to know what you are doing to continually make a pet's food yourself. I have enough cooking for humans much less having to shop for all the ingredients for a balanced dog diet.

I am going to be feeding him Tollden Farms raw, but also frozen bones and organs as treats. Tollden Farms add vegetables and essential herbs omega 3, fish oils and he is getting a probiotic too. I have no humans to cook for and have no problem cooking the chicken for him. He absolutely hates vegetables, but gets "scrambled egg" cooked with no seasoning or oil in a non stick. I'm quite excited about it and feel like I'm doing something really good for him and will ween the new puppy off his kibble in the same manner when he get here.

Oh, I agree about the raw feeding. I see no sense in feeding kibble that has been depleted of nutritional value and then had vitamins and minerals added to take the place of natural nutrition. Kind of like white bread. I had to start looking into raw when Gracie refused to eat kibble. She loves raw and I have no trouble getting her to eat anymore. Have you tried putting the veggies in a blender and then mixing them in your meat? I don't cook her meat anymore. When I mix up some food for her it is totally raw with raw eggs and meat but the veggies have been slightly steamed and run through the food processor. I also add some of "The Missing Link" food supplement to what I make and a little plain yogurt. Sometimes I use cottage cheese. I think it is a good idea to vary the diet somewhat. She likes to have what I make as a treat now and then.
