| need sleep...help please I am wanting to know what anyone has done to help a new pup settle in so you get some sleep. Mine goes to bed anywhere from 10 to 11 and is up at 1am so I take him pee and put him to bed... he wines for a long time and then goes to sleep he then gets up at 3am and I take him pee then he wines a long time again then he gets up at 5 and we go pee and then he wines for an hour because he wants to play or cuddle but I try to ignore him. Last night I turned on the dryer just for the vibrations and the sound but didn't help. I have one of those sound things that has a heartbeat that I am going to try tonight but I want to know what others have tried.

| I had to put Link in the kennel beside my bed and cover it with a blanket.

| I had to let Brandi sleep with me. But she is potty pad trained. Now that I let her sleep with me, she sleeps through the night. She doesn't even wake me up to go potty. But the little stinker wakes me up because she wants me to lift her back up to bed. |

| Your baby may be lonely,he is used to sleeping with siblings. At some point he will give up or you can put him in a crate next to your bed (cover it) and you can atleast gently sush him without getting out of bed as much. How often puppys need to potty at night depends on the age. Keep telling yourself THIS IS A BABY,not a grown up. It is part of the training that will continue for the rest of his life. Mine sleeps with me,this was a choise that I made for my baby and it isnt for everyone, but it is an option. Good luck |

| I would make sure he is where he can see you. I personally did not get much sleep at all the first few weeks when we got Callie but eventually it got better. Its like having a new human baby.

| Lots of good suggestions, but, besides being lonely...and I have never had a puppy separated from a litter that wasn't lonely for a short while, maybe he's chilly? Maybe a hot water bottle to snuggle up to in a nice fuzzy fleece blankie? And maybe some PJ's? He could also be hungry, so maybe a bit of kibble, too. He is, after all, only a little baby... Congratulations!!!

| Make me think of my first post about Gizmo. Got on average of 2 hours of sleep for about 3 weeks.

| AWWWW! I love BABIES! I put any new youngsters I buy, (of course, all my newborns are in crates at the side of my bed for 6-8 weeks) at the foot of my bed in a Puppy Stages crate....they are 24" x 38" (give or take an inch) ...I put a pee pad in the bottom, with the bed on one end and water on the other....but all my babies are pee pad trained....no trips outside in the middle of the night! Then, I cover the crate with a cotton sheet folded in half, tell the baby good night, and we bed down for the night....some whining for a brief time, but not for long....my dogs all think they are birds!! ~ ...they all get covered at night, as well as for their naps....and they have learned when the crate is covered, at ANYTIME, IT IS TIME TO SETTLE DOWN, AND BE QUIET. I cover them all during storms too, and they are calm and quiet and secure. |

| I remember how painful it was to not get sleep when we first got Kona. I agree with the others that it probably is a combo of his needing to go potty and also not liking being alone. Here are some suggestions that might help: 1. Pick up him water bowl after dinner. This might help his last longer through the night. 2. As others have mentioned, keep crate in your room til he's a little older. 3. Cover his crate with a small hand towel to keep it really dark and cozy 4. To help ignore him when he's just wanting to play, I used ear plugs. 5. Maybe change his food from kibble to raw. We noticed that when we switched our dogs food to raw, he drinks a lot less water because his food is not dry which makes him not need to potty as much. Good luck. |

| I had exactly the same issue. Only on the 3rd week, she started getting up every hour and a half to pee. I have never had my pets in bed with me, but everything I heard and read said maybe she just wants to be near me, and I needed sleep! Bella's a tiny baby as she's just under 2 lbs. I decided to put her in bed with me, and WHOLA...I've had a good nights sleep every night! She just wanted to be near us! |

| I got McKenzie when she was 7 weeks old and started out with her carrier on my bed so that if she whinned I could put my fingers inside. That did great for her until she got bigger. Since she is blind I was afraid she would fall off my bed (my others sleep in the bed with me) so she sleeps in the den in her plastic excercise pen. Since she has to stay in the pen if I have errands to run she doesn't have a problem with it at night. I had a little bed in there that she wouldn't sleep in and a pallet that she pulls away until she can get to the rug. That's what she sleeps on. Good luck - it will get better. |

| I just growled at mine, like her natural Mom would do. Worked like a charm. She was sleeping/playing in bed with me at night, licking my face and just wouldn't settle. As soon as I did the right kind of growl, she immediately curled up next to my head, closed her little eyes and went to sleep. The growl came in handy for the following month or so, as she learned what my words meant. She just didn't know my language in the beginning.

| It is likely that it was taken away too soon from his/her Mom. Get a hot water bottle and place it next to him/her where they sleep. It is the warmth that may soothe him like it was the Mom and keep him/her sleeping thru the night. Good Luck. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | You might want to start by taking his water bowl up at least 2=3 hours before bed time. That will allow you plenty of time to get him out to relieving himself / empty his bladder before bed time. Make sure he's goes pee. If it is raining or cold out pups tend to not want to go and will wait until they are back inside where it is nice and warm. So make sure he has gone potty, for sure. Also yes, put his cage beside your bed at night. Cover with a blanket.. and after the first trip out to potty if needed. Try to ignore him, use the "aah aah" command to shoosh him. Try getting him one or two stuffed animal to sleep with. (if possible one that has mamma' scent on it) This will sumulate his litter mates. Or One of your t-shirts, one that has your scent on it. (sleep in it a few nights)
