| Always biting! So Brutus is settling in well, I am finding it hard to tire the puppy out! He won't go outside as he just stands there shivering, I bought a sweater for him which he doesn't like. He is always trying to chew my fingers when I go to stroke him, he just thinks it's one big game lol. I have tried saying NO and OUCH, that doesn't work. I know he is teething but he has lots of toys to chew on. Also how long did it take for your pups to recognize their names? Brutus is oblivious to his! Here he is not liking his harness |

Awwwww cute. How old is he? My puppy was a mess when I first got him. Bouncing off the walls etc. Wouldn't listen at all. But after a month and a half of having him and repeating commands over and over and over he is starting to get it. They just have to hear things (sometimes like 50 times) before they really "get it" As far as his name grab a treat. Put it up to his nose so he smells it. Then say BRUTUS and put it up to your face. When he looks at you and makes eye contact give him the treat immediately. Soon he will learn his name

You can train him on pee pads too. Just praise praise praise when he does it and give him a treat. It took about 40-50 times of praise and saying GO POTTY before for him to really understand. He still makes the occasional mistake. With potty training u have to watch him like a hawk You really have to do this over and over for weeks until he will get it because he's so young. My puppy is 10X better than before, but still can be a pain in the ass Last edited by YorkieMiki; 02-02-2012 at 12:05 PM.

| Brutus sounds like Prissy when she was that young, she still is very hyper, knows her name and still doesn't have the house training down, I do think it takes longer with toy breeds with the house training. Just keep at it and he will learn more every day,,they really are very smart.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | My pup stayed with friends while we were out of town and regressed on the pee pad training but he now freaks out when I try to touch his head and feet. He gets really upset, barks, shakes and bites. |

Yorkie Yakker | I have two yorkies one is 2.6 years old (boy) an a 7 months old girl named Lucy. Lucy since i met her would nibble/chew everything and anything that came in contact with her ...even my fingers....if id stroke her shed try to chew as well She also had lots of toys to play and chew on but after a while of searching for the right toy (especially when teething) what she liked the most were the cotton chew Knots in any size, shape and color...she still sticks to those because she can chew away all that she wants and it is a very resistant toy (since she would destroy almost any other toy that she came in contact). this toy is not only her favorite fetch toy now, but it helped her a lot during her teething stage and even helped getting rid of some teeth that were difficult to loose. For her to get her name and for her to actually acknowledge that i was talking to her took some constant work...like taking a few minutes a day of sitting down with her and repeating her name and when she turned and looked at me i would give her a small treat...i would also say her name as i put a treat near her nose so she would look at me....at this age they are very easy to train if you want them to sit down or roll over... To get her to like the leash i would just put on the harness first (without walking her with the leash) and i would have her follow me...if she got distracted trying to nibble it i call her name, make a noise or show a treat to get her to forget about it and left it on for a while and repeated this for a week. The following week i tried with the leash and if she tried to bit it i would distract her. For the peeing situation i would buy the first days puppy diapers at first because she used to wet her bed...then i bought puppy pads and placed them in the places i wanted her to go pee. Once you determine where is the place or places she will be allowed to pee you can put the pads. at first i put a lot of pads because since they are puppies they have a hard time getting to the exact place to pee without having an accident. Since you have to keep a close eye when this happpens if she went on the floor i would pick her up and put her where i wanted her to pee....if she went and i didnt watch her do it its useless to point her out since she will not recognize what im trying to show her. after repeating this your pup will learn really fast!

| My little girl in two weeks will be 4 months and today she is frustrated an is growling and barking lil bits and then she is hyper like crazy and wants to bite. She hasn't done this since I got her. I think its her teething but she's going crazy and she's frustrated too. What can help her? I have a knot rope and flat bones. Maybe a crewy toy?? |
