| Alligator Piranha Puppies, anyone? Wellll..I know ( as most of you know) that my Bella is not a purebred Yorkie. However, the 'other half' of her is Maltese. I have seen her look more like a cross between a Piranha and an Alligator though...and I was wondering if this was normal? Brussels and her will lock jaws all of a sudden, and bite at each other's mouths. Neither one of them whimpers or whines or anything, but MAN it looks like it HURTS. I know I can't take Bella biting me just a tiny bit (those puppy teeth are nasty-sharp) so how can our 5lb, 9 ounce dog take it so easily without making an injured noise? Bella is 2.6 lbs (weighed yesterday), and I swear sometimes when she opens her mouth it looks like a Pac-Man Piranha (pac-man-with teeth). It's HUGE and her nose is all wrinkled like she's really ticked off...and her eyes kinda roll around so more white shows and she looks like an evil little thing. BUT...then she steps back and wags her tail and dances around like she's all happy, and will even run up and give Brussels kisses...WEIRD looking stuff! Is this normal behavior between dogs? Keep in mind we're not used to having multiple dogs, it's just been Brussels and us for almost 12 years. Is this normal dog playing or is this something I should be stopping or stepping in on? Neither dog is acting like they're in pain, but the noises they make are downright scary. |

| (chuckling) When I first read the title of this thread, a totally different image came to mind. I have two puppies (Apollo is five months old and Arion is eight weeks old). Apollo's nickname is alligator/pirhana because he's always lurking around us hoping to catch the falling bits and pieces of food that we drop. My hubby is a snacking monster so he's always munching on things. He'll be sitting at his desk munching on chips and almost without fail, Apollo will be lurking underneath the desk, sniffing around. Anyways...getting back on track~~ My two puppies do the same thing. We break them up if Arion makes a squeaking noise (sounds like a hamster). I guess Arion doesn't mind the roughhousing because he always goes back for more. They don't bark at each other but Arion makes growling noises. We shake water bottles filled with coins at them if either of them makes any kind of noise. Arion is usually on the ground, belly up, eyes wide open (scares me), legs flaring everywhere... They're not allowed to play together unless one of us is supervising. The constant watching will continue until they are a bit older. Hopefully, the ruckus will calm down in the near future. |
