Hello everyone its been a long time since I have gotten on. So yesterday morning I got a new girl yorkie 1 hour away from my town. She was deathly scared and shook the whole way home in the car poor thing. Her old owner use to make her chicken, pea, carrots, rice, and looks like potatoes.I tryied to give her some and she wont touch it all day! I warmed it up and nope I even went to the store to buy her a can of wet food and she just wont eat anything! im a bit worried about her not eating the only thing she ate was a tiny peace of ham but it took her 1 hour of taking it spitting it out and going back to it later to eat it. I know she wont starve herself abd will eventually eat but im just worried

Also going to add she has the most horribly wireiy dry hair I think they use to clean her with dish soap and it destroyed her hair the top of her head is a little soft but these people who had her was horrible they made her sleep in a box in a closet with a piece of fabric to keep her warm poor girl

I think I would get her to the vet and have her checked out. Poor girl I am sure she is scared to death not knowing what just happened in her life. But you want to rule out bad teeth or any other problems that may keep her from eating. She is a cutie and congrats

Thank you Yes I plan on taking her to the vet soon I want to get a check up and get her some shots. The old owners just didnt take care of her so she is a mess poor girl

She probably needs to go to the vet for a check no mater what but I imagine she is not eating because she is scared and in a new environment. You should not give her ham it is not good for her.

I'm glad you have her. Did you try to feed her any baby food (no onion powder, onion)? Maybe a little boiled chicken? I don't know if ham is good for dogs, too much salt and fat. Maybe a little scrambled egg? good luck with your new pup. You'll feel better after the vet sees her.

Hopefully she's just getting adjusted and will start eating soon. Is she drinking? She very cute!

I wish someone would give me one to rescue.

she is finally drinking thankfully sad thing is she was not given to me i bought her

It's good that she's finally drinking. Oh well, (the $ doesn't matter) at least she will be taken care of now.

If they didnt take very good care of her,then she probably isnt used to being touched very much. Alot of attention might scare her at first.
Boiled chic is a good start. You might try sprinkling a tiny bit of parm cheese on the chic n rice (makes it smell sooooo good). My DH calls it puppy crack because when my baby is trying to be picky she can not walk away from it. It doesnt take much.

You might try giving her virgin coconut oil...and rub her hair and skin with it too. My Yorkies love it...as do I. They lap it of my hands when I put it on them...and beg for it out of the jar. I give them chunks of it as treats.

They used to condition Yorkshire Terriers' hair with it years and years and years ago...long before commercial conditioners were available. Coconut oil (virgin...never made 'from copra' or 'hydrogenated') is rich in lauric acid...as is human mother's milk...and it is very good and very nutritious. Many people I know now give their dogs coconut oil. I use it as skin lotion...the only lotion I use...and put it in the shampoo/conditioner mix I use on my babies.

I also sometimes use good quality Emu oil on skin. They also lap that up...and try to lap the dropper when I am trying to get a bit to put on them.

Both Coconut oil and Emu oil take only very tiny amounts to work their magic...for humans as well as dogs.

Poor baby. Do not feed her anymore ham -- it is way too fatty and full of salt. You risk pancreatitis, GI upset, and other illnesses.

Definitely get her in for a vet examination as soon as possible.

I'm glad she has a new home.
