| yorkie and hearing loss after infection/treatment Has anyone experienced this situation? My yorkie had a ear infection one week ago. Went to the vet and was given Tri-otic ointment drops for ears and also amox pills. Treatment was for a week, one drop in the good ear and two drops in the infected bad ear. Well one week later, he has loss his hearing. The vet said, it should return in a week or so. I am very worried!! Any advise to help me keep my sanity??? |

| I am so sorry. We have had a couple of ear infections treated down through the years, mostly with my schnauzers, but I have never heard of anything like that happening. Hope your vet is right and the hearing returns. |

| It is most likely from the ear meds. I had it happen with one of my fosters not long ago. He was put on Mometamax and within three days of treatment he lost his hearing. I took him to the vet and they flushed his ears and his hearing came back in a couple of days. I believe it usually does return.

| I just googled and found that Triotic does indeed cause hearing loss sometimes. Tri-Otic Veterinary Information from Drugs.com You might want to ask the vet to flush his ears, although I don't know if it is a bit late for that. It may be out of the ear canal by now.

| Gentamycin (in a lot of ear meds) can cause this. Next time you can try something like a Zymox which shouldn't cause anything this to recur.

Perhaps Ian had an infection that Mometamax did not cover. Did your vet do a smear?
