Before I ask this, don't get me wrong. I'm not a German Nazi when it comes to my puppy meeting breed standards and size standards and all that. I think that all that gets a little bit ridiculous, I'm actually quite disgusted at the whole system of registration and standards.

But, I do want to make sure that I didn't get cheated.

I have a beautiful 5 month old yorkie. She has the coloring and look of any other yorkie I've ever seen in pictures... but she's big. She's almost 7 pounds, 11 inches tall and 13 inches long. She's larger than any other yorkies she hangs out with, and much younger, I'm almost self-conscious for her. She has the stereotypical yorkie temperament as well. She is CKC registered, her mom was AKC and her dad was CKC (or vice-versa). I never plan on showing her, and it's not going to change how much I love her, but I was just curious if this was a normal thing or if I got hosed.

Yorkies come in all shapes and sizes. She might just be larger than the breed standard. We would love to see pictures

Kiko is larger than breed standard. She is almost 18 months now and weighs about 10.5lbs. I don't have her height and length handy at the moment, but she is well proportioned, not fat. At 5 months I think she weighed around 5.5 lbs. I got a little worried too, that maybe she was a mix(not that it would matter much, I'm not showing or breeding her or returning her!!), but after doing a lot of reading online, I think she is just bigger than the standard. If I remember correctly, yorkies originally weighed between 10-20 lbs before they were bred down to bed lapdogs, so a few larger ones here and there make sense to me.

There are so many sized yorkies mine is 16 pounds and there are some on here even bigger. Just more to love! Yorkies started out bigger then what the standard is now.

My Jackson is also 16lbs.

We call them 'teapots!'

Ckc as in Canadian or continental? If it's Continental is a sign that one of the dog's was bred without permission and their registration is not worth much. Both mom and dad, or just one has a larger lineage resulting in larger puppies. There is nothing wrong with that!

Kaji is 7 lbs, which I guess is "within standard" but he's much larger than other yorkies we encounter. I know what you mean about being self conscious for them. Some people at random meetups will keep their yorkies from playing with mine because he's a "giant" yorkie.

Wish you were closer. Our giant babies can play with each other.

No, I remember the first YT meet up we did, I think Jackson was around 6 months but he was already 12lbs at that point... and I honestly hadn't really met many Yorkies before... and when they first pulled up, my eyes went

cuz I could not believe how TINY they were!!! Only realizing my boy was just gigantic, haha. I dunno, for some reason, I always pictured Yorkies like, well, like Jackson. Like before I got him, if you told me Yorkie, I probably would have pictured a dog like him. I had no idea about the breed standard etc. Sometimes I feel as though he's a different breed.... but actually, I've met quite a few 10+lb'ers at the dog park. One almost looked identical to Jackson. I do know Jackson's parents were both smaller than he is.

I was thinkig of Jackson when I saw that reaction. It's ok though, Kaji and I don't discriminate.

One of his bestest buddies is a 20 lb terrier mix, and his BFF Missy is officially a teapot now. Then there is Amber, 40-50 lb pup. She's gorgeous and I always forget what breed she is, but she's super pretty. And then there is the new girl my Casanova has his eye on, Emmie a black lab. It's so funny. She won't give Kaji a chance, but he keeps trying to give her kisses.

LoL, so funny. His fav doggy in the whole world is 6lb Nala. I actually think he'd really like a sibling a bit smaller than him. He's really great with her and she gives it right back to him, it's hysterical.

Sounds like a perfect size. My previous Yorkies have always been "larger". I have had Yorkies 9-16 pounds. My two new additions are 3 and 5 - keep hoping for 5 and 5 to level the playing field - ha ha.

My 16 pounder (Jackie) was the healthiest Yorkie I ever had - she lived to the young age of 17. She went to the vet for annual exams and that was about it.

My Tibbers is almost 7 months old and he is 6lbs 12 oz he is so supper long about 14 inches he is not stranded by any mean but I love him just the same!!!

When we got Harry at 3 months, he weighed 10 lbs!!

He's 11 months now and weighs 16 lbs - but not an ounce of fat on him, just a huge (for a Yorkie) great bundle of fun to cuddle and love!

We were actually looking for a bigger, 'old style' Yorkie as we're both so clumsy! Sally + Harry x
