| I am so upset. Could not help a dog running loose on streets On my way to work this morning, I saw a little white dog, maybe a bichon running in the streets full speed. He ran right in front of me and across the street. This is a busy street! Right off the freeway. There was no cars on the other side, and a lady was trying to get him, I assumed his owner. He ran away from her. He crossed the street again, and I had my emergency lights on and driving really slow and honking so people would slow down. A few big rig drivers saw him and they slowed down to stop traffic. He ran into the Jack in the Box parking lot, I tried to block him in, but he ran away again. He tried to cross the street again and he stopped on the island. I was still honking like a madman, and the opposite traffic the left lane a driver saw and slowed down. The next lane the driver did not see. As soon as I saw the car coming fast I screamed and closed my eyes. I heard him scream, but when I opened my eyes he was still alive! The car that hit him just kept going!!! He did make it to the other side of the street. I thought now that he was hurt it would be easier to catch him, no! He was running as fast as ever, probably freaked the hell out! But there was no blood and didn't seem like anything was broken by the way he was moving. So I busted a u and kept following him. By now one other person was trying to help. He ran down a smaller street and went into one of those loading dock things that big rigs ]'[ park in, and I thought of good he's trapped now I can get him. I had Uni with me, and stupid me thought maybe bringing Uni out would get his attention, but no Uni started barking and probably freaked him out even more! He ran off again! I lost sight of him when I was getting back in my car, but a man on the street saw him and pointed down the street and there I saw him. He stopped for a while and I called out to him, then he took off again. This time he took a left and I couldn't drive down the wrong way on the street. I didn't know what else to do so I called the police. Just as I was on the phone with the dispatcher I saw two cop cars and told him where they were maybe they could help. That's all I could do. I felt so helpless, and I knew for sure that dog was gonna get hit again and next time I'm sure he would be killed! I am so upset I could not help him. He had no collar on, and now that I think of it, even if the cops did get him, they will probably just turn him into the shelter and if no one claims him they'll most likely put him down! I am so traumatized, I keep visualizing when he got hit over and over again and hearing him scream. I've been on edge all day and every little sound is scaring me. I've been giving Uni so much more attention today, she knows I am upset. this is the same spot where a few months ago another dog was running loose, but we were able to get him really quick. I think that time the dog may have fell out the window or something, a man called him and he ran right back to him, and thank god he was not hurt. I really hope it was not the same dog, bc they were both small and white with curly hair.

| Oh Priscilla, I am so sorry. {{{hugs}}} I went through the same thing last year when a little black dog was hit right in front of me as I tried to coax him to me. The driver took off and I was left cradling the dog with massive head injuries. I felt sick to my stomach with sadness for over a week and my pupsters were worried for me. You did all you could. It will take time to get over that horrible feeling.

| I am so sorry. I would be feeling upset as well. Sounds like you did everything you could. I'm glad you tried to help the sweet pup - not everyone would do as much as you did!

| I'm so scared to drive back that way to go home, thinking I'm going to see him dead.

| I am so sorry about your morning... It sounds like you did everything you could to help him. I totally know that feeling of being helpless. I once chased a poodle/bichon for over an hour one evening because I was so afraid of him getting hit. I hope someone else was able to catch him. Poor guy deserves a break

| Oh that's so terrible. Ugh.... you tried everything you could. I can't even imagine witnessing that. I almost hit a dog about 10 mins down the road from my house and I stopped and pulled over, had a treat in my hand, but he just ran the opposite direction. Went off into the woods... I stayed there for a few minutes, but at that point, I guess there's not much you can do And just two weeks ago, I was on a REALLY busy road with 3 lanes and this dog was just walking along side of it.... I was sooo scared it was gonna get hit, pulled over, there was barely any room on the shoulder, and he ran right out into traffic!! UGH I was sooo upset and just cringing the whole time. Lost track of him... but I can't believe NOBODY else stopped. It makes me so upset. If that were my dog, I'd hope to God someone would stop and TRY to help...

| I can't believe that's happened to you so many times Brit! Poor things. I'm having a really hard time getting over it. I don't want to go to sleep, I'm afraid I'm gonna have nightmares. I'm so disappointed in my fellow citizens.

| It is sad but its a common occurance here to see dogs out in a yard that isnt fenced or out running around so Ive become kinda numb to it. Today I saw a little Chi in a yard that wasnt fenced. He was super cute too it seems someone could just scoop him up and take him and that would concern the owner but it doesnt. Ive also seen yorkies out running here

| That is so sad and you know it is someone's pet. Good job trying. Just want to add that I have certainly attempted to chase several loose dogs in the last few years. I have only been able to catch one of them and find his owner. Wish I could have helped the other ones too.
