I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Is she willing to place her, not sell her, this money could go toward surgery. If you really believe in the breeder and the breeders breeding program, this might be a good option.

My cavalier has LP on both legs and had surgery before 1 year on one, with statement from the vet that the other one would probably need it soon. The 2nd has never required it, and Cooper is not in pain. He's almost 7 years old. It seems like there are so many unknowns with any puppy, even from the best of breeders. If the breeder were willing to do this, at least you'd have the money set aside.

| At least the breeder was honest,u dont get that much these days. dont give up on your puppy search. As far as the LP I just found out my guy has it in his rear left leg. The vet said they rank it on a scale of 1-4. He ranked mine between a 1-2. Said he wasnt majorly bad and it could clear up and he may never have trouble w it again. He put him on supplements and said itd be best to keep him on it if he'll stay on em. I was soo worried at first because I thought if it didnt get better and he needed surgery what would I do? I read surgery costs online and it was like 2-3 thousand. I thought id have to put him down because i couldnt fo that much. I was soo worried about the "future". But after more questions rom my vet, it wasnt as bad as I foresaw. He said the sugery was around 400 give or take. Much more doable than thousands that i read. What I would suggest would be wether you got this puppy or a different one might be to call ur vet or animal sugeon in your area and get price quotes to see what the costs would be in ur area. Because even if u get a puppy that has no problems, doesnt mean he wont eventually. But check out what things u "might ' be faced w so u can prepare for or prevent. Im thinking about doing away w these store bought treats and just giving them these supplement chews and "good stuff" that might aid in their health. Good luck in ur puppy search. |

| My vet ranked mine at a two or less and didnt act like that was too horrible. But keep in mind though that they can still get that LP and Id say the majority will. Mine is 2 and he's now havin the problem. So from my experiance, if you get a seemingly healthy puppy, still prepare for this. Maybe talk to ur vet about preventative measures for things and just prepare. Cause even if they dont have it when u get em, dont mean they wont or cant get it. And dont wait too long on insurance. Wish id have got it soon as I got him bedore he started havin probs. |

| Just wanted to put out there that it is a good idea to put aside money for "non-routine" vet care. Just because you have a healthy puppy doesn't mean that a few years down the road you won't have to spend those thousands on something for your dog. Which I'm assuming by your avatar that youalready have a dog and probably know this. But I do agree about starting off as healthy as possible. We have two rescues...both mutts....that are healthy as horses. My mom's schnauzer from a breeder has started having seizures. So you just never really know. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Are you planning on breeding her? I've never thought that grade 1 was that bad, and many puppies have grade one, it just means that the joint slips our occasionally. Sometimes just the socket growing eliminates this. Anyway, I'm just surprised she was honest enough to tell you, I doubt if most breeders will, so if this is important to you, make sure you have your own vet check the knees and train your dog to use steps!
