| Introduce myself Hi all, I'm new to this forum & wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kim, married with 2 girls, a black lab, 2 cats & of course 'Fenway' our yorkie. Needless to say he rules the roost! Although he is adorable, he has a hard time going potty outside when it's raining. Is this a yorkie thing? Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks |

No Longer a Member | Welcome to YT! Yep, Rizzo will just stand there and stare at me if there is rain outside. We can stand in the rain for 20 mins and he just won't go. I give him an indoor option for that reason alone. Have you tried putting an umbrella over him? |

| I haven't tried the umbrella route. I think for him it's a matter of getting his paws wet. I was thinking about boots for him but those always look so awkward when they walk. |

| Welcome to Yorkietalk! Neither my yorkie OR my Westie like to go outside if it is really raining. A few sprinkles won't bother Ringo - but Lucy doesn't like to get rained on AT ALL. So, I have to keep a really close eye on her on rainy days.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk. Rosie will not go if it is raining either. I do think it is "the feel" of it being wet. Not so much her hair getting wet. She will stand on the porch and stare at me. I keep puppy pads on hand just in case she don't go outside.

| Rain and snow are the worst. Brandi just stands there doing the little dog shake and looking at me like I am torturing her. Fortunately for me, she uses potty pads as well (90% of the time ). In the winter, forget about it. No amount of bribing with treats will get her to go outside to potty. |

| I guess I am lucky that we got Moses in the winter...we would shovel a spot for him to potty when it snowed. So he is used to the snow and the rain. But I have used an umbrella for him when it's pouring or snowing...ya, those were good times...standing in a snow storm with howling winds, holding an umbrella over a tiny puppy, begging him to potty! Although his breeder used puppy pads, he wouldn't use them! Try the umbrella route, though! Or find a cute rain coat with a hood! |

| I'm fairly luck too, Zhoie will go in the snow or rain...you know when nature calls.... I can tell she isn't happy about getting her feet wet in the rain, she will actually leap across the yard, like a deer to find that special dump spot and then runs like a bat out of h~ll to get back to the garage. When it's colder out and raining, she has raincoats but I've yet to get her to wear the hood. Try a raincoat, it works wonders and they do get use to walking in boots, just takes awhile. Zhoie wears hers in the snow.

| All 4 of mine are trained to use washable potty pads if the weather is too bad. My girls prefer the pads all the time, of course they think they are royalty and they are. Welcome to Yorkie Talk, this is a great site with a lot of wonderful people and lots of information.
