We recently acquired new neighbors, as the lady next door has rented her house out. And the new tenants have two aggressive dogs that are only separated by the landlord's wooden fence that varies in height. Every time we go in the backyard, they growl at us, bark at us, and start trying to jump the fence. I am so scared of these dogs; my kids, Khloe, and myself are being held as prisoners of our own yard. We rarely use the front yard (mainly due to traffic, Khloe gets her retractable leash wrapped in the bushes, etc.), but these bully dogs have made our back yard unusable. I'm looking up information to see if there is a law for the two aggressive dogs to be more adequately secured. I really don't want none of us to be dog bit in our own yard. I've never dealt with this. If anyone knows the NC law regarding this, please let me know. Thanks.

That is terrible that you can't even enjoy your own backyard. Is there a city hall to call and get information? Good luck!!

What about contacting the owner of the house to let her know what is going on?

I agree w Cooper's mom, maybe you should contact the owner of the house and let her know of these menacing dogs. Hopefully, she would not want any potential dog attacks towards neighbors, children or other dogs, and would want her tenants to adequately secure their animals.

Yes there is laws about dogs like that. I had neighbors that allowed their dogs to bark at all hours of the day and night. I turned them in and they got a ticket. The next time they were told to get rid of the two that did not belong to them. The judge was pretty mad about it. go to your towns web site on animal control and see what the laws are there. I think it is nusiance part. We recorded the dogs on video so they could see what was going on with the dogs. I also wrote them a letter about there dogs barking but it did not stop. I think if you videoed the dogs and how aggressive they are it may help with the animal control also. I hope this helps. I have two little rescue yorkies.

Have you talked with the new neighbors about your fears and concerns? They may be willing to work with you somehow on better containing their pets.

If this doesn't work, the next step should be contacting the owner of the house and discussing the situation with them.

I'm sorry you're having these problems and wish you well in getting them resolved quickly.

Talk to them first, id that does not work, only go out with a 12 guage. Isuppose you can also call animal control

We told her, and she went over to see what was going on. She knocked on the door, and the two dogs that supposed to be outdoor dogs from her rules greeted her at the door. She told the woman renting the house that she has to get rid of them, and they have to stay on their back porch until she does. They've already jumped off twice. The lady renting out the house said that they are pit bulls.

So we are playing the waiting game. She told us that she told the renter that the dogs have to go or they have to go.

Did you just make that call this morning? Sounds like the owner is on your side. Didn't she know the renters had dogs?

The lady on the other side of the renter works at a vet, and she has many large, non-aggressive dogs that she adopted. The renter told the lady beside her that SHE needed to build a taller fence to restrain their dogs from each other. The lady on the other side has a more adequate fence than what is between us. So I have a feeling that she isn't working to work with us any better. And Khloe will run toward the fence when they begin growling and bullying. She's small enough to fit through the bars, so it scares me. If something doesn't get resolved, we may need to build a privacy fence, which can be pricey. I'm hoping that it is our right to enjoy our back yard without having to do that. Khloe does not menace the neighborhood, and is a "people dog".

My husband was beside the garden with Khloe the other day, and the dogs were growling and barking at them. He saw the lady next door look out her back door and she did NOTHING to try to apprehend her dogs.

Pit bulls - maybe you should listen to Shodenusmc! (just kidding). Unfortunately, these poor dogs get a bad rap bc they have owners that are really unequipped to properly socialize them. Poor things.

Although, I would be sitting on egg shells until this gets resolved. You may want to check w your local animal control if it does not resolve quickly. Some cities do not allow pit bulls and some limit how many you can own.

I'm not sure what the laws are in your state, but legal eviction can take some time (in the event the renters do not give up their dogs). At least try to feel better that the owner is addressing your concerns and action is being taken. I'm so sorry you've had to go through this!

She has been inside, and we have been using the front yard. We just miss the back yard. I hate going in front of the house with the traffic.

She knew that they had dogs, but there were so many red flags about these people. They saw the house last Friday, moved in on Saturday (mid-month is odd, although I know it happens), and we have been petrified to be in the back yard ever since. The landlord lived beside my husband as a child, and she is a sweet lady. But she used horrible judgment. I think she was in a hurry to occupy the house and didn't do a background check. She knew they had dogs and told the people that they had to stay outdoors, but she didn't inquire about what type of dogs or their temperament.

My biggest concern is our safety. My husband has to mow beside the fence, and it would be horrible to be dog bit when you are on your own property. I'm easy to get along with and we mind our own business and do our own thing, but this renter next door has no respect.

I agree. With proper socializing and training, pits can be sweethearts. My uncle is a well known pit bull breeder, and I've seen what great pets they can be with the proper upbringing. But these next door are so aggressive. I've banned the kids and the dog from the back yard in the meantime until I can think of something better.

My husband and Shodenusmc think a lot alike. He has to mow before the weekend, and he said he's wearing his gun on his side before he even gets close to the fence. I'd hate to see any harm happen to them, but I definitely do not want anyone dog bit either.
