Tear stains are a bugger, I don't have much advise but there are wipes you can buy usually containing aloe and lavender that you can try.

For the profile pic - the pic that shows up under your name on all your posts is called you "avatar" - it's different than your "profile pic". Go to your home page and to edit - then look on the left for "avitar" you can upload it there.

Id like to know as well! Ive heard and tried anything from bottled water to distilled water to switching to premium food... Nthings worked for me. The breeder said its because of the pollution (its bad in korea thanks to chinas yelow dust!) so im hooing it is that....

It sure is annoying! I wipe her tears with warm water on a cotton ball and use a stain remover but am having hard time getting rid of it.

There is something called 'Angels' Eyes' specifically for tear stains on dogs that I would like to try...anyone use this before?

I have and have seen no results. I mix it in plain yogurt. Switched to raw feeding and bottled water.

Im dying to know the secret as I have seen maltese with virtually no staining. What is up with that?!?

Levi's tear stains cleared up with a food switch. I didn't make that connection for awhile; we switched foods for other reasons, but it very much cleared up the stains. When he had bad stains, I just used a tiny comb and a damp baby washcloth to clean around his eyes.

I'm a little wary of Angel Eyes because it contains an antibiotic - never tried it though. I've heard mixed reviews. We did try using nursery water, but that didn't work for us either.

I've read some not so great things about the oral Angel Eye's - basically just that it's not healthy for them.

I've actually browsed around a maltese forum to look for an answer to this since I have a parti (not so much tear staining because she has brown hair around her eyes, but saliva beard staining because that part of her is white.

I haven't come across an answer other than that sometimes a raw diet helps (something about it changing the pH level of their saliva - that's what the Angel Eyes is supposed to do too, but artificialy??).

One thing I DID learn - those beautifully white Malteses at shows - they put this white powder stuff (basically doggie makeup) on those areas to make it look perfectly white. If they have some other trick up their sleves, I've search and searched and haven't found it.

I have heard that if you put like teaspoon of white vinegar in their water it helps. I did it for a while but I keep forgetting. I think it did work though

My vet said Angel Eyes is bad because it contains and antibiotic. Petco sells something called 'Tear Stain' and my vet did approve it as it's all natural. Seems to work well but not completely.

Switching to a grain-free food helped mine but he still gets them. Instead of cleaning his eyes out every day, it's once or twice a week. Actually, he never got tear stains exactly, his were more like eye boogers. My dad's Yorkie gets tear stains terribly and has tried those special wipes, which he said didn't help at all. I told him to switch to grain-free and see what happens. It'll probably take a couple weeks to see results if it works.

We switched from Orijen Adult to TOTW Sierra Mountain. I love Orijen and Champion Pet Foods. The only reason we switched is because our other dog developed some kind of poultry allergy - not because of Levi's tearing. I prefer Orijen and Champion Pet Foods over TOTW, but it just wasn't agreeing with Dallas anymore...and I like for Dallas and Levi to have the same food.

Both foods are grain-free, but TOTW is lower in protein, so I think that might have helped Levi's tearing. I noticed that the tearing had lessened tremendously, and the only change in his routine was the new food.
