I was browsing craigslist in my area and came accross one that is rehoming her one and a half AKC female yorkie. She wants 800 for her. I asked her shy she is rehoming , because their moving to Texas.
IMO, I thought this was a really high rehoming fee. Poor little dog has not even been fixed . I think they hope to get 800 out of her due to she is AKC, but she is over a year old ... I told her I got ny yorkie pup less then that, and she could hear Suzi barking in the background. I doubt she is going to get anybody to adopt he yorkie for that amount, especially in the area we live in.
What do yout think? The ad is posted In Visalia craiglist, CA.

She's probably charging that much because the little girl hasn't been fixed, if you get my drift.

Yes... Sadly . but true. A unfixed AKC yorkie could mean big dollar signs to a breeder , That yorkie was on the small side too. Gosh, when we move , our babies are coming along no matter what. I here this excuse a lot of times when people are rehoming, in fact this is the number one reason why. It still does not make any sense though. Take your Yorkie with you on the plane! From CA to Texas , it would not be that expensive would it?

I just feel that dogs are for life, their suppose to stay with their family , no matter what. They are not disposable . But, they end up that way.

I'm not even sure you can believe that is the reason for them rehoming, some people will want to give a reason that sounds good to others. It could also be a breeder who is selling an older girl, and is acting like it's a rehome. I know what you mean, I can't imagine rehoming Joey because I was moving to another state, it doesn't make sense to me.

I don't think 800 is too much for a girl that is only about a year old ...assuming she's potty trained and has gotten through puppyhood healthy and with current shots...as assuming she's of quality. She's young enough to rebond well with a new family. More I think of it, 800 seems like quite a bargain over a pup for 1200 and all that goes with a new pup (time and expense).

I don't understand that excuse either. We brought our cat with us from Germany to the states and had her for 17 long years until she passed away 3 years ago... why can't people move across the U.S. with their pets? Certainly there are extenuating circumstances sometimes, but not as often as we all hear the excuse "We're moving."

I am moving from CA to Tx, we are driving and taking our yorkie with us. I am sure in future trips back we will fly and he will come with us on the plane, at the upper most it would be like $150 maybe, with health certificates and stuff. Still, thats your family member, you take them with you. It was never even a question for me. I feel sorry for that poor yorkie

Well I think personally for a healthy Yorkie with good lines, 800 is very cheap, but please read accent on healthy.

I am very concerned that an unneutered Yorkie female is being offered up for sale on craigslist for only $800. I am worried that unscrupulous breeders will snap her up, and condemn her to a life of misery.

Very very sad to read yet again another un-neutered Yorkie is potentially in harm's way.

See that is the point, I really do not know what what her line is . She said AKC, however, i did not go into detail if she were papered or not. Some people say AKC and do not have the papers on her. I always would be concerned about LP, liver shunts , and how she would get along with other small dogs. I hope they could at least get her spayed before adopting out. On Craigslist, their are strict rules about rehoming. Her listing will probably get flagged , because she is asking too much there on C.L.
Living in CA, and not too far away from this city , today's economy , it is a lot to ask for . Not a puppy anymore , either. I can't imangine ever rehoming my 2 due to moving or any other reason. my 2 are part of our family. I do whatever it costs to keep them healthy and free from illness. Like anther member posted about her moving, we do whatever we have to do no matter what the circumstanses are. Never turning away from our beloved pets.

Sounds fair for a vet check UTD vaccines etc female....why do people call it a "rehoming" fee...? They are selling a dog...somehow does rehoming sound better...

Next time I have a yard sale, I am going to say.."Rehoming sale...

Probably some greeder will snap her up since she is only $800.00 and essentially "ready to go". They won't care about her lineage or anything. If some dog-lover doesn't get her, she's doomed, poor little girl. I just pray a Yorkie lover has beat "them" to the punch and already in the process of buying her and giving her a future.

Just wondering if the OP was considering "adopting" her? If the term re-homing is used instead of selling I figure I can use adopting instead of buying.

I just don't understand how you can love and care for something and rehome it as if it wasn't even apart of your life. Went to the doctor Friday and the nurse was telling about a woman that moved and told her cousin, which lived next door to her, if she wanted her yorkie she could have her. I think this little thing lucked out because she will really be loved and cared for. But, can you imagine, just to give her away like she was a piece of nothing. Sad. Hope this baby don't end up with a BYB or worse, in a puppy mill somewhere. ugh!!!!!
