| New to YorkieTalk - Couple Questions - Hello everyone, I purchased a very very very timid yorkie at a puppy store about 5 months ago. We named her Duchess shes 4.2lbs, she was at the puppy store for I'm guessing her entire life (11 months when we got her), She has slowly came around and is no longer scared of noises or car rides/people. She seems to love dogs her size and not really care for large ones or ones that are high energy, I would love to get her a sister. She is a very picky eater, I went though every flavor Natural Balance and it seemed we had a winner with the duck flavor then she stopped eating it. My question is I am currently feeding her Royal canine minis with Beneful wet food, she loves the Lamb one in the green container. Is Beneful wet food bad? She loves it and her poos are solid with the mix of the foods. My 2nd question: She gets lonely/mad my wife and I are gone at work, she flips her pee pad and pees where it would normally be. We have thought about getting a 2nd little one for her so she can can company and someone to play with but cant afford most dogs...so I walk into the groomers today and I see the cutest little Blonde/Brown yorkie about 3.5lbs in the gromming room and I ask about her situation, come to find out her owners moved back to China and gaver her to the groomer about a week ago. Shes 2 year old and healthy and $150.00 because they just want to find her a good home. Do you think this is some sort of sign? lol Thanks so much! Alex |

| Welcome to YT! There is a GREAT thread on here that talks about kibble that you could be very helpful for you. I don't know how to link to it so hopefully someone will help me out As far as a "sign" for getting a second yorkie, my only advice is to remember that the purchase price is such a small portion of the costs by the time you start adding in vet bills, etc. We wish you the best on your decision!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Hi, and welcome to Yorkietalk. Joey use to only want to use the pee pad one time, and he'd flip it over when he was done. He hated a dirty pee pad. Could this be what's happening with your girl? I switched to washable pee pads, and he has matured enough so he's not as fussy about using a used pee pad. If you are going to be gone much of the day, another yorkie could be a great companion, but as other have said, don't forget all the extra expenses.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome. If you can financially swing a 2nd yorkie I would go for it. It sounds like a sign to me. Could you bring Dutchess to meet her to see how they get along? My 3 girls get along great and are great company for each other. A little older dog sounds like it might be best for Dutchess. Please keep us posted.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | It's twice the grooming, vetting and food, but far more than twice the mischief . Honestly, I think they do better in multiples. If you can afford it, I say give it a go. As for the food, Beneful is a pretty junkie food, so I would try and see if you could substitute a higher quality one to avoid tummy troubles later on.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk Alex. My older boy was the same as Nancy's Joey with piddle pads. He wanted them changed after each use, but he eventually grew out of it. Sometimes he would play with the piddle pad when I left him in the house alone. You could try putting a second one down for awhile, so that she has two to choose from. I agree about the cost of raising two dogs. The most important thing to remember is that you have to plan for the possibility of a costly medical emergency. With 2, the risk increases. I was worried that my first boy was lonely, and he does enjoy his brother, but I think both of my boys would be fine as only children. As long as Duchess has loads of attention from you when you are home, she will be fine.

| Thanks for the advice, I went back to pick up Duchess and I took both dogs in a side room and let them feel eachother out. The 2 year old is now the timid one and Duchess is going nuts with excitement. Soooo I offered $100.00 and they said ok, Oh my goodness I have Duchess and Coco now lol Brought them back to my office and Duchess is in love, wont leave Coco alone (coco is her original name) duchess is doing the rolling around low stance trying to entice Coco to play...it is soo cute, she never does this. Coco is of course hesitant of everything going on, I know that they can act a bit off for the first few weeks getting to know and new environment but she is doing pretty well. 1 Awesome thing about Coco she is not a picky eater... it might show Duchess to eat what is infront of you (survival of the fittest) type of thing...which is awesome... I got duchess to eat her first piece of Broccoli because she saw Coco wolf it down... I'm pretty excited =) |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That's great!! It was meant to be. A little competition does wonders for their appetites. It sounds like Duchess needed a canine companion. She will have someone with her all the time now. Congratulations. She is adorable.

Royal Canin is good. I've heard not so good things about Beneful but if it helps them eat it...then that makes it good. I would just use more of the RC (dry) than wet. Good Luck.
