Are your girls slow to pee??? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

Just wondering if anyone has a trick or two to get their female dogs to pee faster. Mabel is almost 10 months, just under 4lb and house broken. It is really cold here -25 celcius (-13 fahrenheit) with the wind chill. Darwin, my boy gets outside and does his business nice and fast. Mabel, on the other hand takes FOREVER! Even in the morning, after holding it all night, she sniffs, walks around, sniffs some more and decides that's not the right spot. Any hints?? It's too cold to stand around and I don't want to use pee pads - I'm hoping someone has come up with something I haven't thought of. Thanks in advance!

Nope...no advice here since my girl will do the same thing. She hates the snow so when we had some here that was the only time she peed really fast...like not even getting off of the deck.

I hope you find some help my girl is really slow also. My girl cats are really slow to come in the house so you stand there forever with the door open getting cold air in the house. So i dont know if its a girl thing to be slow or not but it seems that way in my house

Sorry, I don't have any advice for you either but if you find the answer please let me know! My Moo-Moo takes sooooo long to find just the right spot and she'll even squat, do nothing, change her mind and decide to go pee somewhere else...she's also our 'walkinpooper'...she's a funny girl!

Her sister, Maddie Jo, is very decisive, gets the job done quickly and then goes about her business of snooping.

Must just be the pup...My girl squats, as soon as her feet, umm paws, hit the grass, and Buzz meanders around forevvvvvvvvvver...Cha Cha does pee pads...sorry

So glad to know that I'm not the only one with a girl who is slow to find her 'spot'!! I've heard that if you're doing crate training, you should take her out, give her a few minutes and if she doesn't go, take her back and put her up again. Then try again in thirty minutes or an hour. We weren't very religious with this during training as we fell for the "oh, look, she's doing the shuffle!! Surely she's about to go!" thought process. So what was supposed to be a three minute wait would turn into ten really quickly.

However, my brother and his wife have a female schnauzer and he's (my brother) very impatient. So he followed the above rule to a 'T' and Maggie, the schnauzer, goes quickly for him every time. However, for my brother's wife...Maggie takes her sweet time because she knows she can get away with it!

The only time Chloe goes quickly is when we go home to visit my parents. She knows that she can't go in the house and see everyone when we first get there unless she has done number one and number two. She goes in RECORD time! Which just makes the issue all that more frustrating because obviously, she CAN go quickly when she chooses to!!!!

Nope my lil girl takes forever..... She rolls around in the grass... Plays with leaves.... throws pine cones around... it takes her about 20 mins or longer...

Khloe takes forever too!! Couver goes right out and lifts his leg but Khloe takes forever and wants to sniff... I have no advice for you... Just wanted to let you know you are not alone

Darwin pees on command and really fast too! I was outside for over 1/2 hour with Mabel. She hadn't peed since 9:00 this morning and it was 3:00; I also took her out at 12:30 with no results - it's really, really cold Aaaarggh!!!

Bella's the same way. Take her to the same place in the yard and she still smells like she's never been there before. I've been asking her to potty, and hope she catches on to peeing on demand.

I've often wondered if it is a learned behavior, since they know you'll make them go in as soon as their business is finished.

We have a boy and most of the time he will get business done if it is cold outside. Now on a nice day he has to take EVERYTHING in! Today was frustrating...it was very windy outside and in his little area leaves kept blowing and he (if I would let him) would spend all day out there chasing the leaves and not go!! We trained Charlie to ring the bells hanging from the door to go outside. It was non stop today! If he wouldn't go then I would bring him back inside and this went on and on. I wouldn't let him stay out. Then once he finally went he got a reward and could play abit. So then after he went he kept ringing the bell to go outside but I ignored it because I knew he didn't have to potty. UGH I tell him I think he has ADD! We have a small female lab/mix and she takes forever! Her own time always.

Mine too! It's my boys who have to run around looking for the perfect spot...

Maybe this is a medical issue? UTI?
