Yorkie Talker | bad haircut experience About two weeks ago, I took my little one to a different groomer. PetSmart charges $45 to do her hair, not including the tip. That week I didn't really have the extra, but she was overdue. So I found this womans business card at a local business and decided to give her a call, $25 was all she was charging. When I dropped her off she seemed friendly, but Chloe was scared to be around her. She kept coming towards me, and the woman said that I needed to go so she could get more comfortable with Chloe. 2 Hours later when picking her up she seemed fine, however she didn't do the cut as I asked, it was alot shorter, but that will grow. However, Chloe was biting all day and attached to just myself. I couldn't leave her with ANYBODY, even those shes been around on a daily basic. The groomer told me she had shaved down her pads, I didn't understand why she would do such a thing but blew it off and didn't ask any other questions. I started to notice she could barely walk on her paws, she hated the cold, and soon began to pee inside after letting her out. She was rebelling. This haircut scared her. So I went to petsmart and asked why they would do such a thing, and they said that they only do that to dogs with callus's. So I was wondering if any of you had that done to your dogs and if you have noticed a change in their temper. Please let me know. Thanks! |

| Oh, poor Chloe, I've never heard of such a thing. I can't imagine how tender and sensitive her paws must be. Is there any type of cuts on them, that would like get infected or anything? Hugs to little Chloe XXOO

| I have never heard of such a thing, but I am also a newer yorkie owner. I think our pups can sometimes be a very good judge of character. I hope Chloe feels better soon. |

| Oh my, poor girl...I hope she feels much better soon. That's ashame she no longer like outside because of that bad experience. Hopefully, in time she will trust again, not all things outside are bad. Bless her heart.

| OMG "Shaved" that sounds cruel. I cant imagine that being done even if there were calluses I dont think they would shave them and then leave her to bleed or have open cuts. the poor baby. I have 1 girl that does Charlie I do take him to PetCo and there are allot of people that work there but I only let 1 girl touch Charlie and there is 1 woman that I make sure NEVER touches Charlie she took a big nick out of his neck the one time she did him I did not pay for that groom. Im not sure what you could do now except make sure you return to PetSmart where she is familiar and dont be suprized if she is nervouse the next time you take her back ther too. Poor baby

| oh my gosh hugs to you that sounds insane shaving pads work with her slowly on the outside the salt may have burned her poor feet with open wounds...ouch my binky only went to a groomer twice in the 11 years this is not the first story I heard about bad groomers. I plan on just grooming savannah myself like I did with binky only difference is Savannah has a cotton coat and I won't keep her too long and it will be easier |

| Shaving the pads? That sounds horrible! I've never heard of doing that. The first two times I took Jax to Petsmart, they did a great job. The third time, it was horrible. She gave him a schnouzer cut which I think is ugly, didn't trim his butt/genital area, and cut everything else in a very ragged, half-done way. He's also scared of the clippers now, and he wasn't before. I have to desensitize him to the clippers now. |

| I am a groomer and i have NEVER heard of shaving the pads down! That sounds very very painful. I also work as a veterinary assistant at the same veterinary clinic where i groom, and i still have never heard of such a thing. I would not have paid for that groom. And i would certainly call and talk to her about it, so she knows how you feel. I have groomed alot of dogs who have had very bad grooming experiences at other places. And it can take a very long time to win over their trust after this. However i do groom an adorable little girl who wont let anyone near her at our Veterinary clinic except me. It took her about 4 groomings to start to trust me. And now she falls asleep on her back while i shave her belly and trim her feet and nails. So it can be done! So i hope you can find a new groomer who you and your little dog will trust!!!! |

| Your poor baby! I have never heard of such a thing, and I would never let anyone other than a vet do anything like this --- if there were a reason to do it. Give your pup lots of extra loving. It's probably going to take some time to reassure her and rebuild her trust.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | what do you mean "shaved down her pads"? Do you mean the hair in between the pads or the actual black pads themselves? The hair part is quite normal and is a standard part of the groom. Doing anything to the pads besides rubbing some sort of salve on them is unheard of for a groomer. Also, remember, you get what you pay for. I know things are tough but never go cheaper and compromise on anything pet related. Typical groom for a yorkie here starts at $55 and I'd be leery of someone charging 40 or less.

The great thing about Yorkies is that their hair can just grow and grow. If you don't have the money for a full grooming you can always bathe them yourself and trim their face and feet yourself. Then just take them in for their nails and a sanitary clip if you are too nervous to do those yourself.

| I don't let anyone groom my baby. I do her nails and fanny one week, and trim her hair and ears the next. So Tictac gets groomed twice a month. She may not be show, but she's the trophy to me.

| Pads, you mean under the paws? The hair under pads can become matted and sometimes groomers have to shave them off otherwise it would be really uncomfortable for the dog to walk with matted hair under the pads. So that's not cruel to shave (clip) hair off from the pads. You should have asked the groomer why she did that. I am sorry that Chloe had a terrible experience with the groomer. I know it is hard to find a decent groomer. Visit Groomers BBS or Pet Owner Questions Category maybe the groomers there can help you to find a good groomer in your area. Hope this helps. I groom my dogs & the change behavior in my dogs are Beau & Pearl. When they know they are going to be bathed & groomed, they run away. Blue being so good boy, he stays put and cooperates with me whatever I want to do with him. Gotta love my Yorkie!

Yorkie Talker | What I mean as shaved she described it as "I took the drill to sand down some of her pads" and at first I never heard of such a thing but Chloe was happy to see me so I took her and left. Petsmart looked at her and said that it should have never been done, her paws were raw and you could tell they were actually drilled. So i'm sure she cut the hair on the paws but she used a drill to do that work. |
