YorkieTalk Newbie! | How long does it take for hair to grow? I got my Yorkie from my brother a week ago. She is 7 months old. She has never had a haircut. Her coat is very short and out of style. I would like her to have a lovely long hair, so I can experiment with different hairstyles and attach a ribbon, but when will I be able to do that? Shall I trim her coat to cause it to grow faster? Also, I did bath her twice, using a puppy shampoo and conditioner, but her coat seems to be not very smooth. It is not greasy, but has a "dirty" look and tangles 30 minutes after an hour long brushing (she loves it). Any advice please? |

| From what I know, Yorkies are like people - different types of hair, silky or cottony. I have one of each and Mabel's hair grows so much faster then Darwin's. Hopefully someone who is used to yorkies could right in to give you some advice - be thankful that it's not growing too fast. |

| Is her coat wavy? If it is tangling easily she may be cottony coated. Can you post a photo?

| I wouldnt cut it just let it grow. Some yorkies dont get the real long coat. Some do but their hair grows slow so only time will tell

| She's beautiful - she seems to have more of the cottony coat - I'm definitely not an expert but she looks similar to Darwin who has a cottony coat. I think cottons and silkies are both pretty in their own way - Darwin's hair grows but as it tangles more then Mabel's (silky) we keep it cut shorter. I've seen beautiful long cottony coats on this site; just make sure you keep up the brushing once or twice daily, feed quality food and use the proper hair shampoo/conditioner. |
