| Should I get a yorkie? I had one for awhile (His name was Lil man and we got him from a girl who said he was 10 months, When he was 10 years!) But he passed away last year in June (Never realized how much you could love an animal til I got him).. I never actually studied the breed much before I got him because she was just giving him away and I wanted to make sure he had a good home (he was well taken care of though) I have read a lot on YT (learned a lot too) and my yorkie never had any problems with his health EXCEPT for his little teeth (He barely had teeth when I got him because she just locked him in the bathroom all day and didn't take care of him! I think it was because she knew he was an older dog and she wanted a puppy instead) and I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to get a yorkie puppy because I have 3 dogs already (I only had 1 when I had him and ended up getting two when he passed) and 1 is a Saint Bernard (she is real lovey too!) 1 is a Doberman (she is always attached to my side and sad when I leave her) and a Beagle mix (she just likes to sleep... lol). They are all good with other animals I just wondered though if it would be a good idea because my dogs would be so much bigger than he/she would be. I miss my yorkie so much though! I would take it with me where I went (as I did with Lil man) I wouldn't just put all of my attention to him/her of course. I would keep an eye on him/her around my dogs just because of the size difference. But what do you think? |

| I think you have come to the right place to gather information. None of us can make that decision for you.. but you can learn a lot from the experences and knowledge of others. My first question you should asked yourself. Why do you want another dog, yorkie. Do you have the means and time to care for another dog? Are you willing to take your time to find a good breeder? I wish you lots of luck

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I personally would not mix any small breed puppy with dogs much larger. All it takes is a big dog getting annoyed at a little puppy trying to play and you have the makings of a tragedy. Would you let your 3-year old toddler try to play football with the Packers? |

| Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it. When you're gone, the poor little yorkie would have to be crated all his life for his own safety. What kind of life would that be?

| I have an 8 month old female Yorkie. She came into a home with a Black Lab (70 lbs.) and a Viszla (50 lbs). My daughter has a mini dachshound with a Wiermeraner (60 lbs). It all depends on the larger dogs. Our Black Lab is 11 yrs old and doesn't bother with the puppy. Our Viszla is 2 yrs old and likes to play, so we don't leave them alone together or let the play get rough. My daughters Wiermeraner tolerates the pup and is extremely gentle, allowing her to take his bones, toys, etc. In fact he is grateful when my Yorkie comes to visit, then he ignores them both. If the larger dogs are well trained and gentle, and if you keep vigilant, I don't see why you can't add a yorkie. |

| First, welcome to YorkieTalk . It is hard to not have a yorkie after owning one. Lil Sis is correct, you have come to the right place. There are many here with multiple dogs of varying sizes but without knowing your dogs like you know them it would be hard to make the call. Yorkies do have to be careful who they play with and how rough the play is because of their small bone structure they can be seriously injured. I think you will get different answers from yorkie parents with one or two yorkies than you will get from yorkie parents who have experience owning large breed dogs as well. In the end it will be your judgement call. Good Luck.

| Gatsby does not like big dogs but that his problem however when he was a puppy (2 pound) he played fine with my grandmas sheltie(23lbs) and my moms pug(14lbs) now I know these are medium sized dogs not large sized but I think andy sized playmate is fine as long as the dogs get along and are supervised.

| Ziva has a 35 lb sister, they get along "ok " together but really Ziva is lonely most of the time and would much rather a playmate her own size! |

| Don't forget your yorkie was older, a puppy would be something else.

| I have 4 dogs...three here before our 5-month old yorkie girl. The other three are a 20-lb "mutt" and 2 17-lb cavaliers. They all do just great and nobody has even tried to harm Zoe (although our older mutt "warns her off" occassionally). I also wouldn't leave them all together unsupervised (but she does stay in a crate with the cavaliers when we leave--I think they've become an adoptive family!) I would not have chosen to get a 4th dog, but Zoe was a rescue of sorts, and chose us. Now we love her and will always consider her a full family member. I would like to say, however, that based on our experience of the past 3 months, I would not advise having a yorkie puppy with 3 other dogs. They require a lot of time and patience, and want a LOT of love, holding and snuggling. I think my other 3 have therefore received less time and attention than they used to. If our timing was different I would be able to give more time and attention to nurturing and training Zoe, and wouldn't feel like I was shortchanging the others. Just my two cents!

| I think it just depends on all the dogs temperament. If the other dogs are puppies I would probably not recommend it unless you want to adopt an older yorkie. There are alot of yorkies that are in shelters because there 10lbs. If your always home than I don't see nothing wrong if you can keep an eye on them. I have a 5lb yorkie who gets along with any breed no matter what size. Even as a puppy she was very calm. Find a reputable breeder who is willing to work with you. They might want to meet your other dogs and ask questions of how you plan to make things work. I think they might have a better answer since they will know more details.

| We have two yorkies. Darwin, 7 1/2 lb, Mabel just under 4lb. We also have a 3/4 pyrenees 1/4 lab, Zain who is approximately 130 pounds, give or take 10 pounds. It's actually Mabel who adores Zain and doesn't leave him alone. We never leave the yorkies alone with Zain but for us it works nicely. As for your Doberman, if she's anything like my Doberman Josie was, I can believe how gentle and loving she can be - friendliest dog I've ever known! Good luck and let us know what you decide! |
