Annabelle lost her pups last week. They were unable to tell me exactly when, but i think that it was mid-week. She was acting unusuall Thursday and Friday, by Saturday she was panting heavy and seemed restless. I called vet and they said to watch her closely. We went in Monday, I wasn't able to feel the lumps any more, they did x-rays and said that she was in process of reabsorbtion. I feel so bad for her. I was hoping she would get a chance to be a good mommy, expecialy since her last litter wshe wasn't able to raise. They said that the move may just have been to stressful. They said her body should take care of itself but to watch for signs of infection. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Should I do anything for her, besides lots of love?

That's terrible.

I hope that momma is okay. I've never had that happened before but have a breeder friend that it happened to. If I get a chance, I'll call her and ask about it.

Thanks everyone. I would appreciate that txshopper73, I have heard of it happening, just have never had it happen to me or to anyone I knew well. I know that it is common earlier on in pregnancy. I have been trying to make this move as gentle on her as possible, but I know that it was not easy.

I am so sorry to hear this. How far along was she? I have never heard of this before. Did you vet tell you what to expect?

She was day 50 on Mon. The xray showed only little calcification spots, so it had to of happened at least before day 45. Day 45 is when their bones harden, you are able to feel their hard bodies and see their skeletal system. I was able to feel the pups some, so i know that it was after day 40. Since she wasn't feeling well last week, I think it happened close to then. But unfortunetly the vet cant tell me exacts to why or when.

Awe, I feel so bad for you and her. But it seems like something would have to come out of her. That seems too far along for her body to be able to totally absorb everything. Is there no procedure like there is for a woman? Is she at a high risk for infection?

IF her body shows sign of infection, or if she doesn't go back to normal in size than they can do a procedure that would be like a DNC. Because it occured before the bone calcification of the pups her body is able to reabsorb. The vet said some may have reabsorbed before others, there is no way of telling. We are only guessing at the time of her lose. He did say that her left horn was already going down in size, it was her right horn that was still filled. He even mentioned that he has performed c-sections on moms before that had mummified pups from previous pregnancies that didn't work. Of course since we have seen the xrays we know that she wasn't that far along. I just hope she is able to heal ok, and there are no illl effects.

I had this happen to me with Blossom, but she only had reabsorbtion of one pup and we delivered one girl. It is never easy, we put so much preparation in breeding, then this....

Sorry, Annabelle you just get to feeling better, we will be praying for you.

I have been posting o the Breeder forum, and spaced this post. We have found out that Belle has two puppies left. She is due Thursday, or when she has them. They seem to be a good size and Belle is doing great.
