| Traveling with Yorkies on a plane with you Hello I am wondering if anyone had traveled on a plane with their yorkie. My baby girl is small and is 11 months. My question as as follows: What would be the best carry bag to put her in? How should I prep her for a plane ride? When should I feed her? Do I feed her on the plane too? Do I bring the traning pads with me? Should I put her in a doggy diaper? Please i am getting scared and i don't want to look like a freak when I am traveling you help would be great! I worry about the above and I have no clue what to expect...i have all my paper work for the arlines and for the county i am going to...its just i know she would need to eat and drink but i don't know when or where i do it while traveling? |

| I've travelled with mine many times. You will need a bag approved by the airlines. I have a Kwiggy Bo bag but there are a bunch to choose from in all price ranges. You can google it. I would get the bag early and give her time to get used to it. Put a few treats in first and let her just explore it. Work up to taking car rides with her in it. For the actual trip I take mine for walk to potty right before we go into the airport. I also carry a piddle pad with me to use in a bathroom if we need to. I put a couple of toys and something to chew on in the bag and keep treats with me to give her if she starts to whine. I've found that as soon as we get on the plane and the rumble of the engine starts mine just go to sleep. I haven't had any problems. Good luck! |

| I'm flying with Harley on Tuesday, and was wondering a few things... how does security work? Do I have to take all his jackets/harness etc off? Does a micro chip get set off by security? I'm flying WestJet if that helps anyone

| Here at LAX they had me strip Kaji down to his birthday suit, place all his belongings in his carrier and I just carried him with me through the metal detector. Nothing to it really, it just takes an extra minute or two to put the harness, collar, sweater, and belly band on him after we went through security. He's microchipped too and nothing happened.

| Hey I never thought about a belly band, I was just going to line his bag with a puppy pad and hope for the best. He's never had one on before, should I get one for him? it's only a 2 hour flight, with any luck he'll pee before we go and be good. Thoughts?

| If he can normally hold it, I wouldn't bother buying a belly band for this occassion. I did walk Kaji before we got to the airport, and I had a piddle pad on hand too. You can always take your little one to a handicap bathroom stall (because it's bigger) put the pad on the floor and give him a chance to potty before boarding. You could also try taking him to the potty mid-flight, but that might be too uncomfortable for the both of you in a tiny airplane bathroom. Also, I choose a night flight (red eye) and Kaji slept all the way. We (my family and I) all sat on a secluded row of chairs and used our carry on luggage to "fence" him in. We all watched the plane get ready and there was so much going on that by the time Kaji was on the flight, he was so tired. He just slept the entire way.

| I had the same idea about the handicap stall during a layover. I took my previous yorkie, Jessie, in the handicap stall with a pad and kept begging her to go. I finally gave up and opened the door. A poor woman in a wheelchair was waiting to come in. I was really embarassed and apologized to her, but she just laughed and thought it was really funny! |

| I also flew many times with my previous yorkie, Jessie. Some tips: I never fed her before the trip and also limited her water intake. Right before we entered security, I would see if she would go one more time. In the plane, I would let her have small amounts of water and even better have her suck on some ice cubes. I also always carried wee wee pads with me just in case. I would try to see if she would go in the airplane bathroom but she always held it in. I ran into mostly wonderful flight attendants who would let me keep the case on my lap after takeoff. But there was hardly ever a problem since something about the plane movement would put her to sleep. One flight attendant offered to let Jessie use her pad in the galley area, but I declined. Another flight attendant offered to give me half of her turkey sandwich for Jessie after she found out Jessie had nothing to eat before the flight and there was a delay. (I just gave Jessie some treats and she was happy.) But every once and a while you do run into flight attendants who are sticklers for the rules so you have to be prepared to keep them under the seat in front of you. I would think in any case, you could take them into the bathroom with you, but honestly, I think that in most cases, they can hold it in especially if they eat and drink lightly. Good luck. I am bringing my present yorkie, Jamie on her first flight in March. (NY to Vegas). Hopefully she will be as good on the flight as Jessie always was. |

| Thank you every one for your advise and suggestions. Our trip back home to Bermuda went smoothly. Thank you very much! One other question: Now she is home and i got her neutered before i left dallas...alot of people said it was wrong to do it before they have a litter....was i wrong? in bermuda they sell their poppies for $2500 and up and i did not want to fall in that greed. but everyone and trust me everyone who sees her asked when am i going to breed her but when i tell then she is fixed boy the moods changed right away...what do you think....really was i wrong? I didn't want to breed her so i felt it was best to get her done. |

YT Addict | I have to chime in on this one, glad you both made it home ok, I left Dallas on x-mas eve and Gizmo and I are still in Michigan. My baby is 4 years old and I had him fixed last year. He has never been with a female and Although everyone thought I should at least get one litter out of him I never wanted to breed him at all. The reason I had him fixed is because he was marking all over the place, now he no longer does that. I am glad I did it, his little personality is still the same and he is a much more calmer furbaby. So if you wanted her fixed so be it in my eyes.
