| FOUND in Trenton Hi all, My husband was walking our high prey drive retired racing greyhound and an intact male yorkie followed them home. No collar, of course. We've canvassed the neighborhood and alerted the police (animal control is closed at this time of night -- and I can't send him to a kill shelter). The little guy is crated in the living room now, but really can't stay more than over night. Our Joe is on high alert and really wants to get at him. He was terrified outside & I had to toss a blanket over him to catch him, but is fine now that he's in -- can be picked up, turned over, etc. He sounds kinda squeaky. Do they make little grumbly, chirpy, noises? I left a message with Rescueme yorkie rescue, as well, & think I need to go put up some "Found" posters. Any other ideas? Mods, feel free to move this if this isn't the right place for this post. Thanks so much for any ideas/assistance. Rachael |

| I sure hope you find his owner or a good foster home. This is so sad. Makes you wonder what his family is thinking about now. I would be absolutely crazy with worry. |

| I would post on your local Craigslist and in your local newspapers. Many newspapers have free found ads for lost pets. Good luck finding his owner! Thank you for taking him in

| What about posting on facebook? I know lots of people have a facebook account. Maybe someone will know the owner? Just a suggestion.

| Run an add in your local news paper & contact the local shelter, give them the info on the dog & your contact #. Most people who loose a pet look those two places first. Thank you for taking him off the streets Welcome to YT. Last edited by lillymae; 12-04-2010 at 07:12 PM. |

| Also see if he's microchipped, some owners don't put tags or collars because they are micro chipped. A vet or shelter should be able to scan him if he has one.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Thank you for taking him in. Is he an adult Yorkie? How much does he weigh proximately? Small and light dogs, need to be fed quite often. Has he eaten yet tonight? Please come back and post tomorrow if the rescue hasn't contacted you.

| Thank you all! Facebook and Craigslist are good ideas. I can get my vet to scan for a chip on Monday if he's still here & I'm planning to harass the local shelter a lot -- but he's not going there. They do a 3 day hold, then put them down. No staff, no money. Even so, I really need to get him outta here. He adores our dog, but Joe just sees "BUNNY" and gets in super-hunter mode. I can't let him out of the crate unless Joe is leashed and shut in another room. Very scary! I took him for a walk down the block a few minutes ago. He gets cold really quickly. I was hoping he could lead me home, but that's not gonna happen. I guess I can wrap him up and stuff him in a bag after it warms up a little and people come out. Maybe someone will recognize him. His weight is hard for me to judge, cause my own boy is stinkin' huge. He's an easy one hand lift (when he isn't wiggly!). Maybe 5 pounds. He ate biscuits & duck jerky last night, and a little kibble this morning. When I can get him to eat, does 1/4 -1/2 cup a a time sound reasonable? We went for a 4 in the morning potty run, did all his business like a good boy. The noises he makes concern me a bit. He sounds a little choke-y when he barks, too. He was outside for a long time. We ran across some kids who said maybe a couple hours loose in the streets, then it took an hour to catch the bugger. I think I just ran him down. Little legs! He's really good with me but hates my husband -- barks, growls, and tries to bite. Funny, cause I'm the witch who chased him around the yard & threw a blankie over his head! Again, many thanks. I hope someone would do the same for my guy if he ever got loose. Rachael |

| Mine weigh more and they eat about 1/3 of a cup in the am and 1/3 of a cup with wet food in the evening. I hope you find his owners soon.

| I'm glad to know he is safe. They are used to caring for yorkies, which do have some specific needs. Thank you for saving him. He would have frozen out there. They don't have an undercoat, so they do get really cold.

YT 500 Club Member | You call yourself FoundNJ. Am I to assume you are in New Jersey? If you put your location that would also be helpful. This is a very large group of users here, and maybe, perchance, someone knows someone. It would be helpful to post your location.
