Starting to Look for a Yorkie I am new to this so please forgive me if I'm in the wrong section! I am starting to research the best way to get a Yorkie. I want to know how much I should expect to pay to get a good one. Do I need to save $1500 to $3000 to get a good one or is that just if I am wanting to breed (which I don't!) There are so many breeders that it gets confusing. Any suggestions??? I don't want to get my Yorkie from an unscrupulous breeder. I probably won't be ready to purchase one until Spring, but I want to do my homework before I do. I would welcome anyone's input!

finding a yorkie Welcome to YT. Hope you can find your yorkie. It depends on what you want and how much yorkies cost in your area. Everywhere a female costs more than a male. Champion bloodlines or unique colors go for generally higher prices. Ask the fellow Texans on here what breeders they know of. I would think you would be able to find a healthy pet quality yorkie for below $1000. I would personally steer away from anyone who uses the word "teacup" and I wouldn't recommend shipping. I am glad you're researching the breed. All these are just my opinions! Good luck!

For a good pet quality yorkie you could pay around $1500 to $2000. That is on a limited registration.

Yorkie prices range from $500-$10,000 according to posters on this board When I was researching I decided the most important thing to me was the breeder's reputation. I didn't know anyone with a Yorkie so I read all I could at www.ytca.org and started contacting people on their breeder referral list. That wasn't very successful (no pups) but one of them gave me a contact which was my first chance to see a pup in person. That still didn't work out so I attended a Yorkshire Terrier show and met a couple of show breeders. I didn't want a show dog but I wanted the experienced breeder. Eventually I got a pet quality pup from a show breeder. I would never buy from a pet store, newspaper ad or the internet. Some people have found wonderful healthy pets that way but I didn't want the risk. Now that I have found this board and kind of "gotten to know" a few breeders here I would definitely buy from some of them. I would also take referrals from members here that got great pets. good luck
