| New here and saying hello! Hi everyone! my name is Kris and I'm from Louisiana. I've been lurking in the forums for about two or three weeks now reading up on these awesome dogs. I figured it was about time to actually register so I could hopefully receive some advice. On Wednesday, we will be be getting a two year old boy named Biscuit. We are over the moon excited! (Unfortunately for him, I've already started clothes shopping LOL!) Like I said, I've been reading and reading some more but I was wondering what I can expect from a pup that is a bit older. So far I figure we'll have potty issues due to stress from moving into a new situation...maybe refusal to eat? Another bit of advice I would love is how we can help our cat adjust to this new member of our family. We've only ever had one other dog who was an outside dog so this is a new experience for us and we want to make sure we get things right. Thanks so much! |

| Potty issues are also dependent upon whether or not he was totally housebroken in his previous home. Also, has he been neutered? Does he mark? As far as food, the question would be what his diet consisted of in his previous home? Is he a rescue or are you adopting him from a family who is rehoming him? I almost forgot, but do you know if Biscuit has ever been around cats in the past? Some people have had their yorkie's eyes scratched, so that is a situation that needs to be closely monitored. Also, the litter box may need to be moved where Biscuit can't get to it. Some yorkies snack on the contents and become ill. Last, welcome to YT and congratulations on your new yorkie. Biscuit is a cute name, too.

| Let's see.... He is fully housetrained at his current home. He is neutered and they haven't mentioned that he marks? He's coming from a home where he is really loved but due to extinuating (is that the right spelling?) circumstances they have to rehome him. As of this point he is in great health and up to daye on all shots. I'm not sure about his food but he will be coming to us with whatever he is being fed. I do not think he's been around cats in the past so I'll keep a very close eye on that. What we have done to ease the transition (or so I hope) is put a kitty door on our bathroom. (It's one of the cat doors with the magnetic unlocking mechanism so the only one that can use it is the one with the collar)That's where the cat's litterbox and food are. We're also hoping it will help out Pumpkin to be more comfortable if he can get away from the dog. I hope that answered or at least gave a look further into the situation. Also....I uploaded a picture of him into the gallery...I'm hoping he looks more cheerful when he gets here. |

Be sure to use a harness to walk him to protect his trachea. Don't walk him with a collar, even if his previous family did so. Buy lots and lots of clothes for him. I'm sure he will be proud to show off his new duds! I looked at his picture. He's a little doll. He doesn't look sad. He's just been sleeping and somebody woke him up.lol Let us know how things go.

| With ours we did use an Xpen to keep them from the cat and the kitty would come up and "investigate" the new furball. The unfortunate part is that this excited the little guy so much that it scared the cat! It took some time, but typically the cat can "get" to places that the dogs can't. Now they are all really good friends and one cat loves to instigate something with them at all times because she wants to play.
