| Just curious...length? I see lots of questions regarding weight. I'm curious about the length of your babies. What is considered average? I know the standard is for them to be square with the height & length to be equal. I haven't measured Lulu's height yet, but her length is 9 inches. Just wondering if that's long for yorkies of her age (6 months old). She only weighs 3.3 lbs with an 11in girth. So, what is your babies length? Please include any other measurements you can as well.

| I have 3 yorkies. My smallest one is about 5.5 lbs(maybe little more since spayed and treats!) and one tht is 6- 6.5 lbs. they are 2 and 3 years old and their length is approx 9 inches and that would be from shoulder blades or base of neck to start of tail. They wiggle so could be off by .25 inch. The small one is 8 inches height and the next one is 9 inches in height. My 3rd yorkie is off the charts at 15 lbs and who cares what this gorgeous boy length and height is. I will say they seem to get their length by 6-7 months and start to fill out. |

| Thank you both for chiming in. I appreciate you taking the time to do so. It's fun to see how different our babies are! I finally measured Lulu's height & I got around 8 -8.5 inches. I couldn't get her to be still long enough to get an accurate measurement. Is there a standard for the length like there is for weight (not to exceed 7 lbs)? I've never read anything stating it, just that the height & length should be appx. the same.

| Ok what is desired is a balanced dog, as long as it is high. Measure from base of neck to base of tail, then from the top of the shoulder to the floor.

So it really doesn't matter if it's 8*8 or 12*12 so long as the pup is balanced? Interesting. Not that it really matters to me what Lulu is...I love her no matter what her "measurements" are. And she does the same with me.

| Balance is what we strive for. Keeping in mind most breeders like their females a bit longer for whelping.

See, I never knew that either. Man, I am learning so much today! Is this the reason that most show dogs are males? Or all they all males? I've never paid that close of attention. Thank you, Mardelin for taking the time to post.

| I guess both mine are shorties. They are 9" long and 7" tall. One weighs 4.7 lbs and the puppy weighs 2.7 lbs. I'm guessing he'll catch up and weigh about the same.

| Jackson is around 14" long from the base of his neck to the base of his tail. He's 15lbs and has a 17.5" wide girth and I dunno how tall he is from the floor.
