| How many?? Help!!! Hey there I'm new to the site and firstly wanted to say hello. I've got a tiny baby yorkie called Tinkerbell who is now 14 weeks old and weighs 1.2 lbs. I was wondering what you guys thought about adding another to the family? Also what size to go for? Should I find another tiny tiny yorkie or could I go with one more standard. Also my little girl is so playful and such a little diva but she doesn't bark. Is this normal at her age? Thanks Jack Last edited by Jackbrooks; 10-25-2010 at 09:22 AM. |

| Welcome to Yt. You might want to wait a little while, at least until you get more along with potty training. I think it might be harder with two. As for size, I have a tiny too and will be getting her a friend soon, she will also be a tiny. I think you will have to see if you are comfortable with having two very delicate little ones around. They are very fragile and do have some special needs. My Sofia is 16 months and we still like to keep a bell on her so that no one steps on her. Please post pictures of your Tinkerbell, we would love to see her. |

| Hi, My little Coco was 1.3 lbs at 12 weeks. She is now 4.7 lbs at 5 years old. When I got my little Beckham, he was 1.7 lbs at 5 months old. He quickly gained and at 9 months is close to 3 lbs. With yorkies, you can never tell how big they are going to get. The charts are definitely not accurate when it comes to yorkies, so you may be wanting to get a bigger yorkie and it may very well stay tiny - you never know. All I know is that my little Coco was happy on her own, but when we introduced Beckham to the family - she became more playful. So in my opinion, you cannot just stick with one yorkie - they need company when you are not around. As for the barking. Mine do not bark unless there is someone at the door. Coco did not bark at all the first 2 years of her life - she slowly found her bark and will seldom use it. Good luck and enjoy your little yorkie - they are sure loveable.

| I would wait awhile and get Tinkerbell potty trained first. I agree having 2 dogs are the best scenerio just not 2 pups at the same time

| Hi Jack! Welcome to YT! I just have to echo advice you already have. Potty train one at a time. Otherwise you never know who did what. But once she is trained, another is a great idea. I love having more than one! They love to play together. It took my newest girl, Annie all of 2 weeks to break the barriers of being the new girl. Now my other two play with her like she has always been here. She was persistent. Also -- being 1.2 lbs at 14 weeks may or may not mean she is going to be very tiny. As you have already read, those early weights can be misleading. So, you won't know for sure how large she is going to be until a year old. Even then, some have reported a growth spurt after a year, although those are not common. My girl Annie was 1.3 lb at 12 weeks but she is really gaining now so I won't be surprised if she winds up 4 pounds or more. I read of another that was average weight until about 5 months and then she just stopped growing and wound up a tiny. Adults size is one of the surprises our Yorkie pups have in store for us. BTW my little yorkie pup of less than 2 pounds, my 4 pound adult yorkie male and my 11 pound Jack Russell all play extremely well together. In fact, the 11 pound JR is the most gentle of the lot! On the barking -- she will find that voice in her own time. I always get a kick out of their first ferocious little barks. Annie just brked last week for the first time and now she joins in after the bigger dogs bark even though she has no idea why.

| I have an open plan kitchen and living room and I don't want to put her in a crate so what would be the best solution for potty training? Also what do you guys find as the best food for these beautiful pups! I'm currently feeding her royal canin puppy. She also gets a treat of chicken. |

| Hi Jack welcome to YT. I am not a dog expert, but from experience owning 2 basset hounds that were littermates, I would advise you to train one dog at a time. potty training 2 dogs at the same time is a nightmare. It took me 3 months to get them trained and it was a pain believe me. When I got Zoe, my Shorkie the bassets were fully trained and I was able to concentrate on Zoe. After she was fully trained I got Zach, my yorkie. My housemate wants another shorkie but we have to wait until Zach is potty trained before we conquer another dog. |

| My Patrick is 18 months and we just got a baby girl who was 14 weeks. I was really amazed at how easily she became housetrained, I believe the reason she trained faster is that she was copying the actions of her new older brother. I agree you should wait until you have this one housetrained, if for no other reason than it is easier to get their attention at this age if they are not distracted by another puppy. Patrick, at 7 lbs, is gentle and careful when playing with the new puppy, who weighs 2.5 lbs. But I still watch them so she isn't accidently hurt when they romp together. Now that I see the benefits of having one a year older, I am glad I waited.

Don't worry, she'll find her voice soon enough. Sometimes they are a few months old before barking. Enjoy the silence while you have it. She probably will double in size or more. In spite of what any growth chart may say, there is no guarantee or true prediction on the genes your little one has and how she'll end up. You'll be hopelessly in love with her anyway! Welcome to YT!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Roxy did very well with 'Wellness Puppy' feed. While still a pup, I soaked it w/water during her teething stage. After a year old she has done very well on 'Wellness Small Breed'. However, be prepared for a few curves in that road regardless of brand you choose. She gave me a few months in her almost 2 years that she got a little finicky and wouldn't touch it at times appearing to just want something new. We tried a few other of the good brands, but she eventually settled back on Wellness.

| First off wait till you have her completely house trained because they tend to show the others how it's done. She will be a big help to you in that department when you do get another. I'd stick with the same size. They can easily play and wrestle better.
