| Can you plant some large shrubs or trees to block the view and that way they can't bother your dogs? I'd want to block that view!! LOL! They sound like the neighbors from hell. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Oh boy, do I feel your pain at having crazy neighbors. Before we moved, I had one that HATED my dogs. Her house was set back on her lot so that her driveway bumped up next to my back yard. She'd let her dog run up and down the fence line of my yard (rather than hers) when my dogs (a golden and a mini doxie) were out, and then complain when my dogs barked at hers. She' back up her car right up to the fence (over her planting area and well in to my property line and then rev her engine. She called animal control and told them I let my dogs bark for hours on end in the back yard (patently false, as my dogs were indoor babies and were only out for 10-15 minutes at a time.) She made a video tape of my dogs barking and snarling at her. She sent that to animal control. After another visit from them, I decided to fight back. I set up my video camera in the kitchen window and let my dogs into my back yard. She immediately came outside with her camera and started yelling at my dogs (who were quiet and on the other side of the yard doing their business). When they came over to the fence (still quiet) she started throwing dirt clods at them until the started barking (she then proceeded to film them barking). I went outside and called the dogs in. I then got in my car, drove down to animal control and showed them the video tape of what had transpired and told them that I wanted to file charges against her. They went out and talked to her and it never happened again. I didn't speak to the "b" ever again, either. All I can suggest is that you set up your camera when you let the dogs out, just to see if there is something going on. You might also want to put a combination lock on your gate just in case he is letting them out. You are on your own regarding the "view" issues though. LOL. Good luck.

| Wow - what a crappy situation. I hate neighbors like that, we've had our fair share. If anyone was spraying Jackson to the point of coming soaking wet, I would be LIVID. We used to live in a neighborhood and had a person that lived behind (in a flag lot) and at the time, we had a German Shepherd and a Golden Retriever. Yes, the GSD would bark occasionally but it was never excessive (we even put up cameras to prove how much she barked!) and our neighbor used to squirt her and throw things at her. I still swear to this day that's what caused her aggression, she was not an aggressive dog until about 1 1/2 years old, and suddenly she just started not trusting people and I think it was cuz of that neighbor. Anyways... this same neighbor sent in about 50-100 complaints to AC and other places, and one day a cop came to the door, not knowing the issues only seeing that my dad had so many citations and court dates against him, that he took him, brought him to jail, he had to pay all these fines, spent 2 nights in jail, because he had sooo many overlapping court dates, etc, he missed some of them. It was INSANE! So yeah needless to say my dad NEVER spoke to that neighbor again and the judge even thought it was insane. He went to jail for a DOG! Ugh, this all could have been solved by her coming to our door and explaining to us what the problem was. But she was always a nosy know it all who had nothing better to do with her time. Anyways, is barking annoying? Yes! I'm glad my dad lives out in the 'country' in a neighborhood where the houses are far apart with a fenced in yard because when I go over there, the 3 dogs love to bark up a storm at the loose dogs running around. Dogs bark - it's a fact of life but they CAN be trained to bark less so maybe just do your part (even tho these neighbors are crazy) and begin training.

| Sorry you are having issues with your neighbors. It is some peoples' lot in life to want others to be as miserable as they are. I am in agreement with Rhett's Mama. Catching them on film may be a way to deter their behavior. Good luck with your dilemma. YL |

| Wow, I don't envy you your neighbors. I do admire that you went over there and gave the guy a piece of your mind. Often, that's all it takes, unfortunately, not in this case. I'd go with what Donna said and try to catch them on camera. Good luck.

| You have some real jerks for neighbors it sounds like. I think you are being pretty nice considering the situation. I would be pretty upset if someone was treating my babies that way. Just like you are. They must be insane to be afraid that a yorkie will hurt their daughter. Oh well, what do I know. Oh and let me mention, annoying people is why I moved to the country. I have woods behind me and beside me. They have to travel across the woods to come around us. Now I know why I like it here.

| Someone hoses my babies down, I am calling the police! That is assault in my eyes. Not sure what the law would say but it can't be allowed. He can call the authorities if the barking is a nuisance in his eyes (ears) -- he is not allowed to physically do anything to your dogs to stop it. I would find any and all "loop holes" as you called them and make darn sure your dogs could never get out of your yard unattended. Better yet, I would not be letting them out, even in your yard. unattended! I always go out with mine. I worry about hawks, snakes, fire ants, etc... but you hve to worry about a 2 legged snake that may eventually really hurt one of them. I'd proabably looking for a new place to live!

| I feel you should do more to keep the dogs from barking so much. Having more then 1 yorkie myself...I know for a fact what 4 barking yorkies sound like. It can get quite annoying. No...it doesn't excuse your nieghbor from his childish response of turning the hose on them or throwing stuff at them. However, the comment you made about leaving them out there to bark some more...the more he uses the hose on them...could put them in serious danger. What if he decides water is not enough? What if he decides poison will shut them up? Many non-dog lovers are capable of such in act too. I realize it upset's you that your dogs cannot enjoy thier own yard. But it sounds like you are in a no win situation with these neighbors. Your dog(s) safety is much more important then playing mind games with this guy. Put up a privacy fence...or go out with them when they are out there. Also...you have to do what it takes to keep your dog from leaving the yard un-attended. One of these days...he may not make it to the kids house across the street.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | The last two posters pretty much summarized my thoughts. Number one, if ANYONE hosed my dogs, I would be fighting, hopping mad. I have never sprayed them with cold water from a hose, and never would. Even when Cooper used to get in to mud (we have a shady patch behind our storage shed that is swampy, once we figured it out, we gated it off so he can't get in it), I used to wrap him in an old towel and carry his muddy butt to the bathtub! There is a family next door to us that has 6 kids in a 3 bedroom home, and the home is smaller than ours. They also have a dog. They have no problem with their dog barking, and never once have I complained to them about it, but I was sitting in my kitchen one day, happened to look out the window, and one of the kids was standing on something to make him taller, throwing rocks over the privacy fence at Cooper. I was so furious I ran out the door hollering, and the kids scrambled. The mother is a SAHM, and I went over there and told her what they did! Like the other poster said, I have 3 yorkies, and when they all decide to bark at once, over NOTHING, it is ANNOYING. Cooper is going to run around the yard and bark one lap, but if he does more than that, we make him come inside. I think he may be catching on. I know it is frustrating, but I honestly laughed at the thought of your neighbor mowing his yard 1/2 nude at night. <giggle> the neighbor on the other side of us is just as bad, he gets up and mows at 7 am on a Sat or Sunday, passing right by my bedroom windows. I think it is VERY rude, but sometimes you have to pick your battles, if you complain about everything, then they will start picking at you, and then a war ensues. Please repair your fence or stay outside with your babies. You would be heartbroken if one was ran over, stolen, or injured by that vile man. We would be too! |
