Senior Yorkie Talker | Any good grooming advice? I have 1 brush and 1 comb for lexi. I have a shampoo, I still have to get the conditioner. I brush her everyday, but somehow she manages to get her hair all tangled up. Her hair isn't even that long. I believe I spent almost half an hour trying to get out just knots alone. I didnt even finsih because I was getting tired of trying to get them out. Is there any products that would be good for yorkies??? Detangler? Spray? I'm looking for the best for my baby! Possibly something all natural for her? does that make sense?

Yorkie Grooming Talk - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community My question would be what brush and what comb do you use? What are you using now to attempt getting the matts out. What kind of coat does your Yorkie have - silky or cottony?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Try cornstarch to get mats out. Sprinkle a little cornstarch on the mat, work it through with your fingers, then gently comb out the mats. The cornstarch works like magic, is inexpensive and you can't get much more natural than starch from corn.

| Get a good conditioner! It almost impossible to keep a yorkie's hair tangle-free without one. I use Wampum products which are developed by a maltese breeder in SA and they're amazing. It sounds like any conditioner will do at this point for your puppy. Do some research in the grooming section to find a good product that other yorkie owners in your area recommend. Also, what type of brush do you have? It is definitely worth investing in a Chris Christensen or a Madan brush. I have a Madan one and I love it! It makes grooming so much easier and it doesn't hurt their skin when you brush them out. Most other brushes will damage their hair and skin. When you comb her out daily, do you have a spray you use to moisten her hair? You shouldn't be combing it while it is dry. You can make a spray yourself by combining some conditioner with water in a spray bottle or you can buy a ready-made spray. I hope that helps

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | It does work like magic. It's one of the very best tips I learned from this site. Plus the corn starch absorbs oil, so it acts like a dry shampoo between grooming sessions.

I had regular pet store brushes and combs. But then I bought the Madan ones from Jenny at toplinepet.com I can't manage without them now - I actually went through withdrawal the other day when Beamer's groomer took my Madan grooming comb by accident. Just couldn't work with the pet store ones any more. I ended up using the Madan small mustache comb which is small but a heck of a lot better than trying to groom with the pet store comb. The cornstarch, you have to work it through the mat with your fingers.

Hmm...for some strange reason she always gets super matted!!! ONLY where her collar or harness goes. :S I got some yorkie splash and shine shampoo, conditioner and detangler. It smells great, but some of the knots might be too great to get out. I even tried rubbing in the cornstarch thing. Maybe I need a better brush. Lexi complains when I'm brushing her too long....Maybe the comb/brush I have isn't that great....

I put Beamer on the table and I spray him, sometimes with the Miracle Coat leave in conditioner, sometime with the Crown Royale grooming spray. Then I use the Madan pin brush to brush him. Lift the top hair up and start with the underneath hair closest to his skin. I brush and comb the underneath and work my way to the top coat. When I have finished I take the comb and comb through the whole coat again - if I feel any "resistance", then I know I missed a tangle, and rebrush and comb that area again, lifting up the top hair and starting next to the skin again. There is this neat book in the grooming section: http://media.wiley.com/product_data/...0764568809.pdf The instructions for putting the bow in are what I use too.
