My sister recently moved back home and just two days ago (monday) she picked up the boxer puppy she bought. Her name is Addie and she is totally adorable but here's the thing I need advice on. Pippin isn't really too fond of her. Monday he didn't eat and he didn't want to play and when she came near him he would growl, bark and snap at her. Yesterday he did a little better because my sister gave Addie a bath and she smelt like his shampoo and not like her brothers and sisters. He ate his food yesterday and he actually chased after his toys even though a couple of them she had played with, but he still growled at her when she tried to play with him and he's still snapping at her.

I'm giving Pippin all my attention and reassuring him that she won't hurt him and that he will be fine. He's still wanting to go outside, he's not peeing around the house. I just don't know wha to do to help them get along. Is it just one of those things that is going to take some time? When he was growling at her and running from her in the kitchen his tail was wagging, is that a good sign? I'm so confused and I'm getting worried that he doesn't want to eat his food. I know he'll eat when he is hungry cause he did that last night. Any advice would be great because I'm not sure what to do and it's only been 3 days.

Sorry I do not have any advice. This has to be very difficult I imagine. I hope you get some wonderful words of wisdom! Hopefully Addie & Pippin just need some time for Pippin to accept her.

I would give him a little more time to get use to him. I would never leave them alone together. My sister had a boxer who was a real sweetheart but she would jump a lot and very bouncy. She could accidently hurt Pippin if not careful.

Im sure Pippin just needs some time to get used to the change. He already seems to be doing better, I bet after a couple more days they will be the best of friends.

I just had a mini break down because she was chasing him around the house and he wasn't really growling at her he was more like just barking because she was barking and being playful. They've been nose to nose and Pippin even licked her ear last night. I'm hoping that all he needs is time to get used to her. She can't jump on the couch and Pippin sits up on the back of it (the couch is against the wall so he can't fall) and when she barks he'll bark back but when she gets too close he growls and shows his teeth. I really hope he'll keep improving and that he eats soon.

I would just give it time take them out on walks together and decide who is dominate and lock the submissive one in a cage for 5-10 min and let the other sniff in this situation i would say lock the puppy up feed pippin in a different part of the house wear the puppy is not allowed to go also try to make sure the puppy leaves pippins favorite toy(s) alone this my help or you may have to take them to training classes and when they are both trained you may be able to tell them to "leave it" and get then to leave each other alone

Pippin is clearly the dominate one because when he shows her his teeth and snaps at her then she usually leaves him alone and she'll go chew on her bone. The favorite toy thing isn't an issue because he has already played with toys that she had chewed on. Pippin only eats his food in one part of the house and that is in the living room. His water bowl is in the kitchen but for some reason he won't eat out there but he'll go out there to drink. He usually eats at night and last night he chowed down while my sister was playing with Addie and she was only a few feet away from him.

Kelly, He will get used to her. I had a similar situation back in July when I brought my new boy home. I have a Mamma's boy named Dante and he wasn't to thrilled to have to share me with another boy. He was doing the growling and showing his teeth to Cruz the new boy but after about 3 weeks Dante realized that Cruz was here to stay and him being a jerk wasn't making me happy so he decided he may as well give in and like Cruz to. So there is hope for Pippin and Addie. I do agree with Patti make sure they are supervised because with Addie being a pup she may not realize her own strength.

I have been watching them when their together. Pippin hates it when she jumps at him but this morning when she was chasing him he stopped and stood there without even growling and she jumped at him, then he growled and ran away. I would love it if Pippin would just eat but he'd rather just curl up on the back of the couch and sleep. He's not refusing food all together because he ate some treats when I gave Addie some for going outside to pee, it's just his kibble that he won't touch, he won't even eat it out of my hand and he loves his kibble, but last night he actually ate his food while she was like 2 feet away..

I have an IG puppy, now eleven months old, but still wild as all get out. When Liz, the YT, plays with her there is a ton of growling. If the puppy has a bone, Liz has to have it and when she gets it, the IG commences the chase and Liz, with bone in mouth, growls the whole time she is running. Liz also growls when they play tug and I recently noticed that Trudy has started growling when they tug. So maybe Pippin is play growling like Lizzy does.

Be very careful. Addie will grow very fast. They are all legs and do jump a lot. They would easily be too much for a yorkie and could easily hurt a yorkie, even accidentally.

I agree, Liz is only about 6.5 lbs, and low to the ground. My Italian Greyhound puppy is about 15 or 16 lbs and at least 17 inches at the withers (she's a big girl). She can get rough and I don't leave them alone together. They also don't go out in the yard unaccompanied, as the IG puppy can easily run Lizzy down.

Addie is very clumsy and is constantly tripping over her feet, it's cute in a way but she is very jumpy. Pippin sits on the deck and when she comes in then he'll go down the steps and go do his business.

I just wanted to update you all and let you know that Pippin finally ate his food last night and again this morning. My sister mixed his favorite food (cheese) into his kibble last night and he had to eat the kibble in order to eat the cheese. Then again before bed he came out and ate his food without there being any cheese left in it. This morning when I got up and mixed some more cheese into it and he ate again and even went back a couple times to eat some kibble to get to the cheese at the bottom.
