| collar I know lot of people here do not like collars on there little yorkie. I have read all about it and weighed up the pros and cons and i think i really do need to have a collar on my Poppy. Where we live my front door leads out onto a big green with houses all the way around in a square. There is no front garden just a back garden and this big green in the middle of the houses.. If Poppy was to get out by accident she could run all around the houses and even down next to the river which is VERY popular with dog walkers. I feel alot safer if Poppy had a collar just in case. I bought her a lovely collar and sent away to get her a spacial pink name tag. Its pink in a heart shape with Poppy on one side and my mobile number on the other side. I put it on her yesterday she looks very cute! she keeps trying to scratch it off but i am sure she will get used to it. I can fit two fingers down it so i know its not to tight it fits perfect. I had to buy an XXXS collar and its even on the tightest hole and fits her perfect (shes so small lol). I feel like a bad mummy because i have to have a collar on my little girl but in my area and the way the houses are set out its really not safe to not have a collar and name tag. Puppies are so fast and i would hate to even think what would happen if she got out and didnt have a collar or name tag on. She is starting to go out for potty so she seems to like it ouside and is getting used to it. I hope you all understand. Does anyone else keep a collar on there furbabies?

| You need to do what you need to do to keep your baby safe. I have read that quite a few people on here have collars on their little ones. I don't know much about them but I have heard of breakawy collars. Also, maybe you could take her collar off when you are not home (?) Just some alternatives. I only pretty much use collars when we are out in a crowd kinda thing. You shouldn't feel bad for wanting to keep your babies safe.

| I keep a collar on mine too.For the same reason. I do walk them with harness though. I just think a harness causes too much tangles if they are left on all the time.Plus they don't look as comfortable as a collar. You are right your baby will get used to the feel of the collar soon.

| Don't feel bad. Mine wear collars for that same reason. They are fast and they love it outside. We can't stay outside as long as we want because of the extreme heat here in Florida, but we do go for walks and romp around the back yard. It only takes a second for them to dart out the front door when opened. My neighbor's yorkie has darted out several times and it's taken me to either open my front door or back gate to get her back. She just loves Ally, who is her best friend. It is not my neighbor's fault either. She has cancer and has had many family members visiting to care/watch over her and her yorkie. They just don't realize how fast that baby is! Collars are worn all the time and I put a harness on also when we go for walks/car rides. Mine do scratch at their collars every now and then, but have gotten used to them. It's for their safety and I wouldn't do any different! Don't feel bad!!!! |

| Thank guys. I feel alittle better now to hear others use collars too. I have a harness for poppy ready for when she can go on walks. Its a step in puppa harness its PINK with white poka dots, soooo cute. Its a little big for her at the moment but it should fit her soon. She has her kitten harness which i keep putting on every now and then so she gets used to wearing something. She is just so fast when running around my house and i worry incase she darts out the front. I have a pourch so there is a door i shut before i even open the front door which is alot safter but you just never know what can happen. Thank you for all you advice xxxx

| Jackson wears a collar pretty much 24/7! It's just not worth it to me if they get away. I remember finding sooo many dogs in my neighborhood growing up and we would get them, read their tag, call their owner, and they would come pick them up. Tags are awesome!

| My 4 wear collars all the time also. The tag is right on the collar itself so it doesn't hang down. They don't mind it at all. The only time it comes off is bath time.

| We just don't like collars on Yorkies to attach the leash to for walking. Collar is fine to hold their ID tags, and a harness for when you are taking Poppy for a walk. You are a good mommy for wanting to keep our Poppy safe

| Piper wears a collar at all times but is walked with the harness. I think the main issue (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is not that the dog has a collar on, but rather if you use the collar for walking and the issue of damaging their tracheas. Are you able to get her microchipped? That is another safe guard if picked up by animal control. |

| Sakura pretty much always has her collar on. Only for baths and brushing does it come off but then it goes right back on. I have 2 tags on it one has her name and my number and the other has my address and house number. And her microchip number tag. It makes it easier to know where she is by the jiggling so she is less likely to get stepped on too. |

| I keep a collar on Callie with her tags on it at all times except durning a bath. When she doesn't have her collar on after her bath if she can reach it she will go get it and bring it to me, she hates not having it on. When I have her on the leash though I use a harness and never hook the leash to her collar.
