Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Noob introduction Hi everybody, I'm a noob to the world of Yorkies and have been lurking for a few days, so I guess it's time to introduce myself. I have had six dogs in my life - ranging from a pair of purebred miniature dachshunds to an Australian shepherd pound puppy -- and have been very fortunate to have them live long, health, and happy lives. Lost my most recent "child" three months ago (just a few weeks short of her 16th birthday) from CFH and kidney failure. I promised myself I would wait a good long time before giving my heart to another pet, but in the last month I have been to several friends' homes and spending more time playing with their dogs than visiting with them. I think it's time to add a new baby to the family. This time I know I want a toy-sized dog - one that can go with us when we are out and about. I've looked at tons of guides and on-line information and keep coming back to the Yorkies. I'm so glad I found this site, because I was going to contact some of the breeders with those oh-so-pretty websites and in the classified ads until I learned here about bad words like teacup and mini. Knew I wanted a dog at the higher end of the breed standard anyway, but I think you've steered me away from some potential heartbreak. I have emailed four local breeders I found in the AKC registry that had also been praised by several different people here, and hope to find just the right puppy for my family soon. I'm in Ontario, California. Would love to hear from anyone else in the Inland Empire about where you have found your dogs, experiences good and bad, trustworthy groomers, etc. Betty |

| Welcome and may I point you in the direction of Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue (Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue Adoptions and Shop) or any other reputable rescue group? How about giving a Yorkie a second chance? Take a peek below at my sweethearts, Abby & Phoebe who I adopted from YTNR:

Yoour babies are bueatiful.....I have a rescued myself and they are the best. So don't rule out a rescue or adoption. I will say this, my yorkie (who was rescued from a byb) is a spoiled diva and I love her so much. I got her when she was 7 yrs old, she is now 9 yrs old and she is absolutely the best. | |

| Welcome!! I'm so impressed with all the research and stuff you've done. It's really fantastic. I hope you find the baby of your dreams!! Just be patient and make sure you buy your breeder before your pup. I didn't do that with Fynnlie and found myself floundering a little. Also, make sure you wait until your baby is 12 weeks or older before bringing it home. I had to pick up Fynn at 10 weeks because his breeder had a medical emergency and am having a lot of issues with him that he should have been steered away from. GOOD LUCK and keep us posted!!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanks to everyone for the kind welcomes. I think the rescue groups are wonderful and the people who foster or adopt special needs pets are special people. But having nursed my 15 year-old dog and 17-year old cat through their final illnesses in the space of 10 months, I really want a healthy puppy. I know that there are no real guarantees that even from the best breeder with the healthiest parent dogs, you can't still get a puppy with unexpected issues... but I'm going to do my darndest to start out right. That said, I will be sending a donation to the Yorkie rescue group this weekend. I may not feel ready to give my heart to the cause, but a little cash might help someone else who is equal to the needs of one of these little dogs. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | This place is addicting... Tell me about it. I've spent every spare moment since I found you guys reading on all kinds of topics, looking at pictures and videos, and making a shopping list. All I need now is the dog. Put myself on the waiting list with one breeder who is waiting to learn if her female is enciente, And anxiously waiting to hear from another who has puppies now! (It's cool with the first breeder -- she just asks that I let her know if I adopt in the meantime). Definitely looking for a female. I understand that female Yorkies can be a little more stubborn than the males, but I've had a male miniature dachshund and don't want to deal with the "boy stuff." |
