| Morkies Hello! I am thinking about getting a morkie in the next couple of days. I have read many of the older threads about them, for I am trying to make an informed decision. I know that they're mutts, so that does not need to be said. I have looked in the newspaper, and checked a couple shelters but have found nothing. There are two breeders around me who each have only one litter of morkies. I have talked to both of them, and one is actually not a breeder. She just gets the puppies and sells them, which i don't think i trust. I DON'T want a dog from a puppymill. Am I right in not trusting her? So basically I would like morkie owners to post some pictures of their fur babies as they grew up. And if you could tell me a little about the temperments, coloring, and size, that would be fantastic! Oh and also if you could include how they get along with other animals. If you are wondering about my username, it is just temporary until i get my puppy, I will then make a new one and let you all know Oh, And if you are in the chicago area/you know any morkie breeders in the chicago area please let me know! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Your first reaction to the broker is the right one. Run. You never want to buy from someone that you can't see how and where the pups were raised. As for looks, temperament etc... There is no standard look or anything for them. Because you are mixing breeds, you can get one that looks more like either parent or anything in between. Maltese and Yorkies each have their own set of health concerns to be worried about. You'll need to familiarize yourself with all of it to ask the right questions. Also, if anyone tries to sell you a morkie that they say has "papers", be aware that AKC doesn't recognize mixed breeds and CKC doesn't recognize morkies as a stand alone breed either. There are some mixed breed registries out there, but they are kind of questionable. Good luck in your search.

| I have the sweetest little 20 week old 'Morkie'. She is 3 pounds 2 ounces. She gets along great with my kids and my great dane. She is spunky when she needs to or wants to and she is so very loveable once the kids are asleep. She has wavy maltese type hair but a yorkie face with floppy ears. There are a few pictures of her in my public albums along with my dane and my grandmothers yorkie. As Rhetts mama stated though, there is no standard. I personally think they are a great little mix. You just have to be very careful where you go to get one.

| Thank you for the advice Rhetts mama. I will keep the thing about the papers in mind. Rik20101- She's adorable! Have her ears been floppy the whole time? Because from what i've been reading most morkies ears seem to be up and down the first couple of months, Personally i think they're adorable with their ears up, so if i get one i will probably try to train them to be like that! But of course, i would love it no matter what :P The only other thing I'm worried about is my two year old brother. He is very gentle with dogs, but he is very loud, and i hope the dog would be tolerant of that. |

| Yes, her ears have always been floppy and I love it!!! They flop when she runs and she is so expressive. I have a 3 year old and a 4 1/2 year old and she is great with them. When she needs some time away from them she jumps into my lap and knows I will protect her.

| And also, Has her fur been changing color at all? Cause i have also read that it is common for them to lighten as they get older |

| Well, when I got her she was black with gold/white tones to her face, white belly and legs. After her first haircut she turned gray with white legs/belly, white face, and white ears with brown/gold tips. I was looking at her fur today to see if she would change yet again once I cut her down next year and it looks like she is going to lighten again. Only time will tell!

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Hi and welcome to YT. As others have said there is no standard when it comes to a mixed breed dog as they could end up looking more yorkie or more maltese I know there are a few people here who own morkies though so Im sure you will be able to get all the information you need here at YT. Also about your user name, you may have to make another YT account (if that is allowed) to change your name because admin does not allow you to change the user name of your YT account Good luck!

| I have two morkies....boy and girl. My avatar is my boy Calvin. He was about 3 months when that picture was taken. I have a picture of my girl Bella in my album. I haven't had a chance to upload any more pictures yet. Calvin is six months now and Bella is 3 months. They are the sweetest most lovable dogs that I have ever owned. Calvin is extremely lovable and is very happy sitting in my lap whereas Bella is a little crazy but very lovable. Bella is 3.14 lbs and Calvin is around 5lbs. He has more of the yorkie fur and Bella is a cottonball. They have the same father (yorkie) but different mothers (maltese). Calvin's fur is changing. As you can see in the pic the top of his head was all black, now it is silver. Bella will definitely be lighter too. The fur underneath is much lighter than her coloring now, almost blondish. I love my two morkies! I know some people are against hybrids but I feel that I got the best of the both breeds! |

| another Morkie mama My Morkie Belle is the light of my life. We got her at 12 weeks and 2.5 pounds. Now at a year and a half she is a whopping 7 pounds. Belle is black and white and her hair is mostly straight. Her body and ears are like her Maltese dad and her face, eyes and attitude are from Yorkie mama. There we 7 puppies in her litter from a 7 pound Yorkie and none of them looked alike. Belle is extremely smart and understands way too many words. Sometimes she is very independant and other times she is mommy's baby. We also have an 85 pound Lab that finally gave in and accepted that Belle would be staying. We had lost of Miniature Schnauzer 6 months before we got Belle and our Lab was grieving very badly as was his mommy. I thought my heart would never heal after losing Abby. Belle seemed to know that I needed her to help heal and she has been the best medicine for both of us. I can't imagine being without Belle. I went back and forth between Maltese or Yorkie for quite awhile but ended up with the best of both. Buying from someone you trust is important. A good family breeder will give you references and vet papers for healthy puppies. I love to look at Morkie pics as no two look exactly alike. There is a site called maltesemaniac.com that is great. You can either join or just look at pics. People post pics and info about their furbabies and you receive them on your email. They are anything from Maltese to Yorkies to Morkies to any other Maltese mix. Most of them are soooo cute! You will enjoy that site also and get lots of info. Good luck finding your sweet baby. |
