| When Did You First Take Your Puppy Outside? Our little guy, Oliver, is 19 weeks old and had his last set of shots one week ago, but he still needs his rabies shot. We live in a condo, so he hasn't been outside yet. We were invited to go camping this weekend, but we'd have to take Oliver with us. There will be other dogs around. Is it too soon to go without risking him catching something? What if we didn't let him go on the ground? I hear a lot of conflicting things, so we just want to make sure he's safe. Thanks for your help! |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Usually it's 2 weeks after the last set of shots. But since he hasn't had his rabies shot yet, I would be concerned.

| I took Jackson outside at 9 weeks old when I brought him home because I outdoor trained him from the start (didn't ever wanna mess with pee pads). ONLY in our backyard though, not in strange places where other dogs have been, or parks, or pet stores, etc. I know alot of people would disagree, but I would take him. I think it would be a great socialization experience for him and as long as you are safe and take precautions, I don't think it'd be a problem. Jackson did not get his rabies until he was 6 1/2 months old and I took him to a few of my cousins little league games--socialization is SO important at such a young age and I don't like cooping a dog up in a house for that long. My vet told me I was fine after Jackson's 2nd set of shots to go outdoors (just told me no dog parks, or pet stores, etc). IMO, they're more likely to catch something going into a vets office at such a young age where ill dogs have been.
