| 2nd yorkie what do you think? I have been wanting a male yorkie so bella can have a partnet to play with. I really think that she needs another dog to play with. For more that i play with her, i dont think that it is as fun as playing with another dog. I have taken her with other dogs and she is so shy to even play, and she only stays behind me and doesnt even want to know about oother dogs. But when she is home, she is so full of energy that i cant keep up with her! I think that she would do better having another dog. The only reason why i havent made that step is first, i gotta convince my husband. Second, i worry about having to go somewhere. I normally take bella with me when we go to road trips or even on airplanes. But i think that 2 dogs will be to much to take to someone's house like visiting family. Specially if they dont have dogs. I live so far away from my family that i like to visit them as often as i can. And bella is always my dilema because i dont wanna leave her at home but it cost like 200 just to fly her with me. So if i get another dog, it would be hard for someone to watch them or take them with me. What do you normally do??? do you think that a yorkie needs another yorkie to play with? or she will be fine being the only dog? |

| I am currently looking for a female yorkie, I have a little male and I think he would be much happier with a playmate as well. Bailey has so much energy and loves to play with my bf's dogs, but they are older and bigger and really can't be bothered, poor Bailey gets frustrated with them! I take my little guy everywhere with me as well, I don't fly much though( can't stand planes! ) Good luck in whatever you decide!

YT 2000 Club Member | We had Prissy, our toy poodle, for several years before we got Jasmine, our darling little yorkie. Prissy was a very quiet "only child", but she LOVES to play with Jasmine and Jasmine adores her. We take both of them most of the time, but we do leave them with our vet, which we love, when we go away for long periods of time that we know they won't be able to go. I hope what ever you decide to do works out for the very best for you and your little one.

| I always get relatives to dogsit. Every time my husband and I have a fight, he wants to buy me another yorkie LOL. I'm not an impulse shopper and I've had to say "thanks but not right now" a few times. But-I'll definately pull up his previous offers should the urge arise. |

| What can I say... we have five... LOL! The travel problem is very real though and we have missed out on a few great opportunities b/c we couldn't take the M&Ms but IMHO a playmate is important for a little furbutt. Maybe your family can start visiting you? |

| Two vs One I adopted my second baby at Easter. I felt that my baby needed a playmate too. I decided on another girl though. They are best friends, but the baby, Tia, does bother and annoy my first, Ally. I tried to make sure that would be around the same size because my neighbor's 8.5 lb yorkie is just too big to play with my 3 lb Ally. Tia was supposed to be smaller than Ally, but at six months is slightly bigger. Before Tia, Ally wanted to play with me, only. Now, she will go to dad...which he just loves. She will ignore me, if I have Tia, but will come to me to pick her up if Tia wants to play and she doesn't. Ally was shy around other dogs too, but very active with me at home. I recently had to travel for a family funeral and had to get my friend's teenage daughter to puppysit while my husband was at work. I probably would have taken Ally, if I hadn't had Tia...I guess, but I don't travel much. Ally usually goes to the airport with me to pick up/see family off when they are coming and going. I haven't figured out how to take two. I've been thinking about a stroller...not sure yet. Ally was a little over a year old when Tiny Tia came home. I think if she was older, it would have been harder for her to deal with Tia. They love each other and don't want to go anywhere without the other. Sometimes I feel Ally should have been my only one because I just adore her (with all my heart), but she really loves Tia and plays so hard with her. There is more play than her being annoyed at her. I'm glad I did it. I have two loves now. Just my thoughts. |

| I've been having the same dilemma. Jackson would do so much better with a constant sibling (we visit often at my dads house with their 2 dogs, and he's so much happier). But, he goes to families homes with me, and for short little errands, and on vacation, and on my dogwalking jobs with me, etc. I just don't think that would all be possible with two. I really am having major puppy fever right now (aka, I want one now!) but I'm trying my best to be patient.

| We recently went through this same thought process. We welcomed Ozzy into our life in March. Now I am a huge dog lover and used to show Cardigan Welch Corgis in conformation - I still have 4 of my geriatric crew with me (8-11yrs old) They really do not find much need in interacting with Ozzy...he is quite annoying to them!! We also have a Bernese Mountain Dog which is my husbands baby...he is so lazy he just lays there while Ozzy jumped all over him. During the day if we are gone, Ozzy is gated in our kitchen so not alone but separated from everyone else. At night we found that Ozzy would not sleep through the night...about 3 am..and he was up and ready to go. This was not working out so well for us. As you can imagine!! Over the 4th of July we traveled to see family. Now try dealing with 6 dogs and 4 cats!! I take 2 of my corgis to a pet resort - as they are stinkers and will fight with the other dogs. Then I hired someone to stay at my house and take care of 3 dogs and 4 cats. I then enlisted a friend who has a yorkie and a yorkie mix to babysit Ozzy. It was his "extended play date!!" Well when I picked him up I asked her how he slept. She said she had to wake him up every morning that he was wore out playing with the other dogs. I told my husband this...and he was the one against getting another yorkie (for obvious reasons.... 6 dogs are alot of work) but he decided.... let's do it!! So I found Harley -- our sweet sweet girl!! Ozzy is having the time of his life He is so much happier now!!! They are so cute together! Of the two, Harley is more on the shy side..but boy can she let Ozzy know who is the strongest of the two!! ha ha (she is all of 3 lbs right now!!) And....yes they both sleep through the night. The alarm wakes them up and then they are ready to go!! So hopefully you can get a playmate for your baby!! I glad we did!! Karen Ozzy and Harley and the entire crew!! |

| Our little Rio (female) was an only child for her first year. We always planned to get a sibling for her, but wanted to be sure we got a similar sized Yorkie to play with her (she's aroun 3-3.2 lbs). We brought home Bullet (male) 2 months ago and it's the best thing we could have done, for Rio and for my hubby and me! They are so playful and happy - Rio is much more active now, and I think Bullet didn't have any problem at all adjusting to our family since he already had another doggie to bond with immediately. I also love how different they are - Rio is more independent and will only come and give us some lovin on her own terms. Bullet on the other hand is a total lovebug and will come cuddle and kiss us every chance he gets. Rio is also the more bossy one, and thinks she rules the roost. Bullet is happy just chillin and playing with his toys. We have no intention to breed, so Rio is spayed and as soon as Bullet is old enough (he's 5 months old right now) he will be neutered. My hubby and I brought Rio everywhere we went - snuck her into restaurants, the movies, shops by putting her in her bag. Now we have two, so we made sure we got a "bag" that wouldn't look so feminine if my hubby was carrying it. We still bring both furbabies everywhere with us - yes it's a little more work to coordinate everything, but we wouldn't change it for the world. We have a doggie stroller that looks like a human stroller which is has helped when we don't want to use two bags - most people just assume we have a human baby inside! |

| Couver was an only child for 1.5 years, and in May we decided to add a second to our family. We had talked about these issues- travelling, cost, etc and decided that it was definitely worth it to add another. Since we added Khloe to the family, Couver has been a happier and more active dog. They are constantly wrestling and chasing eachother around the house. I can tell he is not jealous and loves his little sister to death. It is totally worth everything to see them all cuddled up together. I am training them both to ride in the same bag so I can take them both on short errands with me. Right now Couver is accepting it because he's a bag boy but Khloe is going to take some convincing

| I am asking myself the same question. I am very new all this so I obviously don't have the right answer. I was wondering if my Harley needs a playmate. He is 12 weeks old and is very active and happy. He gets all the attention and would it be fair to try and divide my attention? He weighs less than 2 pounds and I don't want to have a playmate that is way bigger than he is. Do I get a female or another male? Not to mention the cost of another dog. I also will have to find a good place to purchase from. So much to consider! |
