| Found Yorkie. What to do? On my way to work today, I saw a tiny yorkie running frantically down the sidewalk. It was in a busy area, and it was a yorkie... So I couldn't just leave him. I was running late, so I picked him up and he was scared and tried to snap at me. Once I picked him up, I could tell he was relieved. I had to rush home and I put him in one of our spare rooms with a kennel with bedding, water and food. He is a complete mess... Unneutered, around 3-4 pounds and matted. I have checked on Craigslist with no luck... But I am kind of torn. Should this little guy go back to a family that has not been taking care of him? Part of me thinks I have no right to try to find him a better family but the other half of me wants to save him and get him neutered and into a home that will take better care of him. Anyone have any advice? I'm at work right now, but will post pictures of him when I get home. I just couldn't allow him to get run over

| Oh I am so glad you were there to help him. Hopefully he is chipped but if not then if you cannot find his family I hope you can find a good home where they will take care of him and love him. In the meanwhile, give him lots of affection and reassurance because he's been through something terrible. You are my hero today.

| Michelle, I'm so glad you found him, are taking care of him looking for his owners. He may be a mess but who knows how long he has been fending for himself out there. I hope his owners are looking for him.

| That was so sweet of you to take him before he got hurt. If he's that badly matted, hmmm. Either he's been on his own for a while or no one cared that much. Hopefully, he will have a microchip and you can find the owners.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | The condition of his coat could just be a reflection of him out running and not how he was cared for at home. As for returning him, how would you feel if your pup was lost and someone didn't return him to you because they thought his matted coat meant you didn't care?

| Thanks for the advice everyone. I didn't have time today, but I will get him scanned at my vet tomorrow. I will be searching for his family... I have been checking Craigslist for the past two hours, but his family may not even notice he's gone yet. The area I live in, there are a lot of small dogs running rampant. It is the culture of the people I live around. I'm honestly hoping no one searches for him because I don't want to give him back to a family that allows him to run free. I know I could be wrong, but the fact that he is unneutered, no collar and matted leads me to think he is not taken very good care of. I know I would be crushed if I lost either of my two... But they both have nice haircuts, collars, are chipped and fixed. I just think all dogs should have as good of a life as my two

| I'm SO glad you stopped and saved him! Poor little thing. Please keep us updated. I think he deserves a better home! But I do agree you should keep looking for original owners... maybe someone lost him a long time ago, or got him stolen and that's why he looks so bad, or something else. Let us know!

I think you shouldnt jump to conclusions though and give the owners the benefit of doubt. He could have gotten out of a yard and got lost. Someone could have stolen this baby and then dumped him. You just never know what happened! Not everyone has a computer to put an ad on craigs list. I would check local news paper and put an ad yourself saying you found a yorkie and give the owners an opportunity to find him. Where I live, those ads are free. Just cuz he wasnt neutered doesnt mean that he was abused or neglected. There may be a medical reason why he hasnt been neutered yet. There might be someone at wits end trying to find him. Give them some time and if nobody claims him, then do the above. I'm thrilled though that you took him off the streets. | |

| Okay just so you can get a idea of what kind of owner this may be Gatsby is not fixed because the last time he was put under his heart stopped so i did not feel safe trying again. he is not micro-chipped because i cannot decide on a company to do it. i keep him clipped short because when he gets any length to his hair he rolls around and mats it. i keep a collar on my dog but there are a lot of Yorkie owners who don't. And to top it off Gatsby has weight problems on and off so he tends to look very skinny like he is not being fed even though i home cook and he gets free feed kibble. I hope this little guy ends up in a nice warm loving home one way or another.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | It's also possible that there is no craigslist ad up because he's been gone for quite awhile( which would also go to the condition of his coat) and they've given up hope of finding him.

As far as matts go, if my little Yorkie was out for a day running free and getting into grass and bushes, I'm pretty sure he'd be a tangled mess by the end of it. So maybe neglected, maybe not. I certainly hope you are successful in finding his owner, they must be panicked by now. They too may not go just where to go or look for their precious boy.

| I hope you find the owner of this little guy and I'm glad that you found him before something awful happened to him. Thank-you for opening your home to a lost soul.
