Hello, YT ppl. I have a question. How much do you think a Female Yorkie will weigh, if she weighs 1.9 lb at 14 weeks? (She has short little legs, if that helps.) Please let me know, thanks so much!

Aww she sounds like my little guy! He is barely 2 pounds at a little over 14 weeks, he's gonna be so tiny! I want him to gain weight and he sure does eat a lot, but I'm just glad he's healthy!

How cute he is so adorable! Do you know how big his parents weigh?

Not knowing the weight of the parents...I would guess close to 4 lbs.

Is this ok to look at. Is it usually correct.... Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow ? According to it she will be, 3 to 3.5 lb

IMO I dont think the charts work. You need to see the parents. That will give a better idea

Charts are ok to give you an idea, but the breeder is the one to ask. The breeder knows the lines, also can give you info from previous litters of dam & sire. The weight of dam & sire really doesn't amount to much, it is the lines that determine weight.

will her papers (akc) say her lines weight?

Aww thank you! Yes they both weigh about 7 pounds but Oliver was the little runt of the litter so my breeder says he'll most likely be 5 to 6 pounds

No, your breeder will know, from researching her lines prior to breeding.

If it is an outcross - the breeder will not know. You need to go farther than just the parents to guess weight better - need to know grandparents as well. Weight can never be guaranteed, only a good guess for a breeder that knows her lines and how her puppies developed. That takes years and for the breeder to keep in touch with all the buyers s/he sold their pups too. The best guess, rule of thumb, is to double the weight at 12 weeks, but no guarantee. Yorkies are ones that can grow at different rates and in which depends in the lines (combination of ancestors) - some grow very fast at the beginning and then stop and some grow very little over the 2 years till they reach their adult weight. I have seen this with mine. So you just cannot be sure. I do look at the holes of the nose - if they are very small - like pin holes - they tend to be on the smaller size. Also look at the paws and bones. Ones with bigger bones and paws tend to be on the larger size. But you also have food and nutrient that can also effect them.

Remember -adult weight of a puppy cannot be determined by only the parents!

And adult weights of the ancestors are not in their papers or pedigree. Papers are completed when the dog is a puppy, so they are not even adults yet.

It has never even come close to being right on mine. the problem is some grow fast in the beginning and then slow down, others have a slow start and then take off.

Birth weight can be effected by the size of the litter. Litter size can also affect how much they weigh as puppies because in a small litter, they get more to eat, the might be fatter, but still small in structure.

Thanks! This helped me a lot. She has both her paws and nose tiny. the owner said 3 to 4 lb. But I wanted to get more opinions. I will try to get a pic of the puppy and try to post it, to see if I can get more opinions

I have experienced this too... fatter larger puppies who will slow down latter and end up smaller than charts, also had smaller pups who kept growing longer...
Usually i am able to guess pretty closed as i know my lines well. But i had a couple surprises before.
