Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Belly Bands? Ok you will probably think I'm really stupid but what is a belly band? I've seen them mentioned a few times on here, what are they used for? Thanks

Beamer is always marking his territory in the house - usually just inside the bathroom. I have ordered a belly band for him to wear. Washable Belly Bands by T. Bumpkins & Co. and Doggie Pee Pads

No Longer a Member | Thinking about getting one for Rizzo for when we're at bf's place. He doesn't mark or anything but has had 1 accident over there when we weren't paying him any attention. So, considering it so the bf doesn't freak out when he wanders off...really he has the same marble flooring as I do. If he has an accident it's really easy to clean...but anyway, I think they are great ideas, especially for breeders, or un-fixed males, or just males that haven't kicked the marking habits. |

| belly bands Is it best to start them used to it at puppy age? How long does it take? I figured if I put one on mine he would just tear it off, chew it up, and eat it He is 14 wks right now. |

Poppy's Mamma ♥ Donating Member | Thanks everyone and sbrdy77 from what I can gather the males sometimes do a little wee to mark there territory. I dont think it applies to females once house broken.

| No, untrained males will pee and mark where they please. I do understand that some yorkies are more stubborn than most, but I firmly believe that they can all be trained. If you never allow the habit to form with a puppy, it shouldn't be a problem anywhere. But, if you have a marking problem (totally different than peeing) my suggestion is neuter, training, and proper cleaning of messes. Belly bands are a great training aide, but I wouldn't use it as a permanent solution. Kaji's skin gets irritated if there is pee in the belly band, and it is next to his skin for too long. With lots of consistent training, which is similar to potty training, I don't have a marking, or piddling problem anymore.

| That's a misconception. Many females mark. I know a few that mark worse than my boy does.
