| Question about Sambos AKC papers?? I bought Sambo from a breeder when he was 10 weeks old. The vet said if I was going to have him neutered I should do it around 6 months. I was under the impression that his papers would include whether or not he could breed, but they don't include anything about that. The breeder has since moved and I have been unable to get ahold of him to ask. If I'm not going to be able to breed him in the future I want to go ahead and have him fixed now. How do I find out if any puppies he sired would be able to get registered and what age should he be neutered?? Please Help Sambo & Jenny |

| There should be a section on his registration papers that has boxes that have been blacked out if he has been sold on limited registration by his breeder. |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Did you buy him with the specific intention of breeding him? I read in one of your other posts that he came from rather poor conditions. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ml#post3192943 You've also stated that you can no longer get in touch with the breeder. All these things send up red flags that this is NOT a boy you should even be considering breeding in the future. Without a full and accurate history on his line, how can you be sure he is healthy enough to breed or whether he is even an excellent representative of the line? Are you willing to pay for all the health testing that goes in to breeding? Are you willing to stand behind any health guarantee the dam's owners offer (which could include you being required to fork over a lot of $$ for any genetic defects in the pups). I just don't see why you would even want to take the chance on doing this unless the puppy was purchased from a reputable breeder with a strong show and good health history and with their express blessing to breed (not just the lack of a blacked out box on a form.) My apologies in advance to the very good breeders on here if I over stepped my bounds.

| You would want to have him nuetered at the same time you are assured that all of his adult teeth have come in. He may retain some baby teeth that may have to be pulled, so for his benefit you'd only have to put him under once. A couple of things you need to be aware of. The best time to have him nuetered is when his growth plates have closed and of course when both of his testicles have dropped. Your vet can best tell by examining him. Make sure your vet uses Isoflourione as the anesthetic and of course have a blood panel run on your pup before undergoing surgery.

| Jenny What are your reasons for wanting to breed Sambo?? Have you ever bred before? It's not easy! I bred Lhasa's over 20 years ago in England, and Yorkie's are smaller than Lhasa's and I wouldn't attempt to breed a Yorkie unless I absolutely knew what I was doing, and breeding would improve the line (and I was about 20 years younger! LOL). I didn't get any papers with Beamer, I didn't expect to as I was buying him purely as a pet. (But I know he has good lines - his mother and his grandfather were Durrer Yorkies and his daddy was a Thailand champion). Just get Sambo neutered and love him as you do now.

| I do not want to make you feel bad or make you feel like "we" are jumping on you, but I do agree with the above posters. There are so many animals in the world with no homes....neuter him, love him, and allow other yorkies to find great home that his pups would have taken from them.

| Thank you all. After reading your responses I've decided to get him neutered. I was only considering breeding him so that I could have one of his puppies. Your advice was correct, I've don't have much experience breeding small dogs. I have owned two toy breeds in the past but had both spade. I was thinking it would be good for him to have another dog at home he could play, but later I will look into buying another yorkie. I won't be getting him neutered soon though since he still has all his baby teeth. His little balls have dropped though and he is always humping things?? Thank you for your help. Sambo & Jenny |
