Peeing from Excitement

Okay I have this sweet girl, she is 5 months old, and we have a peeing problem. She will pee on certain guest when they come over. I have a friend that I work out with 4-5 times a week and every time she comes over she pets Paris and then Paris pees, can I do anything. She is pretty good when it comes to being potty trained. She goes outside to go the bathroom and for the most part she likes to be away from people when she is going, so I don't know what to do. Of course I never get mad because we know she can't help it. We have tried not having my friend pet her when she first walks in but Paris still runs up to her and pees.

bailey does this with ONE person in my family. we've helped the situation by pottying him right before he walks in the door. bailey LOVES him, but for some reason only pees on him and NO ONE else. so maybe try to potty your baby before your friend comes over?

This is very common, and you are so right in not correcting her. Also, you are correct in not having your friend pet her.

Most submissive urinators are especially sensitive to people's body language and vocal tones. Loud, angry voices and happy, squeaky voices both act as triggers. Likewise, imposing body movements and exciting movements can create bladder control problems.

Try to move calmly and slowly around Fido, especially in situations where he is already excited. Absolutely avoid any grabbing movements or positions where you tower over Fido. Many people naturally pet a dog by bending over the top of them and reaching for the head or sides for a nice pat or scratch. But for sensitive dogs this position makes them look up at a person who is huge and towering, making them feel small and vulnerable. Imagine how you would feel shaking hands with a person who was three times your size- you might just pee on yourself a little bit too.

Instead of bending over, try crouching or sitting with your body slightly sideways to Fido. In this position, the greeting isn't so overwhelming and Fido gets to make the overture by coming closer to get attention. When you do stand up to walk around, try looking past Fido instead of directly at him and walk to his side instead of straight to his front. These subtle changes make an amazing difference for most dogs.

Now that you understand and see the difference, try to convince all family members and visitors to follow these same "rules of engagement". The calm greeting thing can be hardest for kids, who just can't seem to help themselves from squealing with glee when they get home after school and see Fido. Time for some kid training! Make it a game or contest with your kids to see who can go 3 minutes without looking at, talking to or touching Fido or give your kid a specific task that he has to complete before greeting Fido, like putting his backpack in his room or going to the kitchen for a snack. bella used to pee of excitement when i get home.. but then one day she just stopped. It was more or less when she turned a year old and she barely pee's for excitement.. maybe just give her some time!

Callie used to do that as a puppy but she eventually out grew it.

My yorky pup dosnt do this but my older cross breed used to when she was younger.

Ziva seemed to have outgrown this a few months back but a small child came into the house the other day and she wet at his feet. Maybe... a combination of being "full" and the young child petting her?- she was crazy excited.

I had this same problem you're having. By the way, my baby was 1 so I don't think they all "outgrow it." Nancy suggested the same thing, which helped tremendously. One thing I did add on to Kaji's routine was that he only got cuddles, or spoken to after he went pee pee outside. Since no one else takes him, I had to train him myself to go run to a patch of grass, or now run to his piddle pad before I can pick him up and tell him what a smart boy he is and how much I missed him while I was out. It's turned into the weirdest greeting. I open the door, he runs like a spazoid in all directions, and then bolts for the piddle pad. He then prances out of the bathroom because he knows the praise is coming. He's so cute!

If you know that you're friend is coming over, take your little one out to do her business before hand. Exercise her a bit to use up her energy. It'll be easier for you because you'll know when your friend is coming so you can prepare for her arrival. For me I think it was a little more difficult because I'm Kaji's primary caretaker, and his trainer and the cause of the excited peeing.

I have a little girl who is almost 2 and she does this too. Not on anyone but on the floor when she is excited. Sometimes she gets me on the foot lol. I never get mad about it because I too know that she can't help it. I have four yorkies and she is the only one that does it.
