| Mango not going to bathroom today He ate yesterday after he peed in his cage around 4(?). He ate around 6ish. Hasn't peed or done anything since yesterday. He drank plenty, ate a very small amount today, and still hasn't gone. I took him for a walk up and down the road, and nothing still. He did not have clothes on, so that wouldn't be the reason why (maybe earlier it was, but tonight, no). He only wants to sleep when we are inside and play in the yard! It is starting to concern me a bit- he must be miserable. But he looks so peaceful, calm, and well, comfortable. Mango is happy with me, he follows me everywhere! I can't walk 5 feet without him by my side- in his mind! He hasn't had one accident yet, except for the cage, but we had pee pads down. I've had a pee pad in every room we've been in, mainly the living room where we spend most of our time right now. And take him out AT LEAST every hour. I know this is pretty normal, but he seems so happy and relaxed here, why won't he go to the bathroom? Last edited by megantheswimmer; 07-04-2010 at 04:24 PM. |

| How long have you had him? If it's been a few days, he could still be adjusting to his new home and hasn't gotten a routine down.

| Are you sure he isn't peeing anywhere. These little ones leave such tiny puddles they can be hard to detect at times, especially if it is on a patterned carpet.

| Do you have a schedule for him? That can help him regardless of whether it's on piddle pads or outside. Sometimes these little ones are having way to much fun to remember to go potty. Kaji is way older and even he forgot a few times because we were having so much fun. He peed on my leg though.

| Terlis: He isn't peeing anywhere. He's always on the leather couch with me, or on hardwood floors. We don't have any carpet...well. wait. In our living room where we spend most of the time, there is carpeting. But I don't let him out of my site...and he usually will have an odor of urine after going. From what I've noticed before. I never let him out of my site, I don't think he is going anywhere. When we are outside, he stands still, and then will continue walking. DvlshAngel: I do have a working in progress schedule. I take him out right when I wake up, and after my shower (about half an hour later), and a few times between 11am and 2pm. Probably 3 more times. I pretty much take him out every hour. We eat in the afternoon and evening, after each meal or drink, we go outside for 6-10 minutes. I also took him on a walk today for the first time...he has not been leash trained so we are working on that and we walked up and down the road really well! (with a few breaks in between to talk to neighbors ) Not sure if these guys lift their legs up when they pee like bigger dogs though? |

You've got a good schedule going. He can probably go out every 2 hours. Make sure he knows your out for potty time. I tell Kaji, "go pee pee" "go poopies" or "do you have to go potty" and Kaji knows all those cues have to do with potty time. Then praise praise praise when he does good.

| I am trying! I say "go potty." My pug knows that phrase, along with, the infamous: TREAT, wanna treat? haha. And "sit, stay, down, paw, eat, drink, kissy kiss. And I always cheer on Mango when he does something good...he likes that. It's like.....he knows he's so darn cute, that he knows he can do everything wrong in the world, and know I would still love him! I have a pee pad everywhere I go when I'm in the house...so far, no use. |

| I just want to warn you, a pee pad everywhere can be confusing. Pick a spot and always have a piddle pad there. Have you tried, "Mango do you want up?" yet?

| Cooper didn't lift his leg for a couple of months. He still sometimes just squats when he goes potty, so look for that too. Any update on Mango today?

| Ever seen the squat and lift? Kaji is a weird little boy. He was 3 ways of peeing: the squat, the leg lift, and the squat and lift. For poopies, there is only one. The spin till you find the right spot dance.

| Oh gosh, I think Cooper does the squat and lift. If he's peeing on a tree or something (marking) he'll lift his leg almost over his head. If he runs into the backyard for a quick potty, he'll usually just squat or squat and lift his leg about inch off the ground.

| I believe that whether or not male dog's lift their legs depends on when they get neutered. I'm not sure of the details.
