| Does anyone else's yorkie lose hair when removing bands? Poor Bailey, I feel so bad, everytime I take out his hair band there are a few strands of hair stuck to it. I try to be as gentle as possible, the band is never tight. I use band scissors, although a couple of times I cut some hair off along with the band! ( should have used better lighting so I could see!) I noticed the top of his hair as breakage now I don't want to cut it, so I need to keep the hair out of his eyes, he won't keep a clip in for very long. Is there anything to spray on the hair to lessen breakage? I know I'm probably grasping at straws!

| Darlene, this is the same thing that happened to me w/Apple...At about 12 months, or so, her top knot was so thin, I gave up, and had a visor cut for her...I don't care how careful I was, the band was breaking her hair...Now, she just wears a visor, all the time, w/the hair behind it, combed down both sides of her head...The groomer puts the hair, behind it, up in a bow w/a top knot...That's the only day she wears her hair up...I guess, like humans, some are born w/thick, strong hair, and others aren't...My pretty little girl, Apple, does not have thick, strong hair...I've gotten used to her new look, and it's o.k. w/me...Maybe some others will have something else to offer here... |

Thanks Maggie, I feel so bad, it's like I'm doing something wrong, but I guess his hair is just fragile. If you have a pic of Apple with her haircut please post!!

| Maybe you could try putting it up with the little terry cloth ties? I think they break the hair much less. Of course, they don't always stay in as well either .... |

| Darlene I have the same problem with Jada and Bogie. Bogie has very thick hair and I still have a few strands when I cut the band with the band scissors. I use the terry cloth bands during the week and only use topknot bands if we are going out. There is less breakage with the terrycloth bands. I get them at Wal-mart in the hair goods or baby section.

| I was having the same problem and started using the Goody elastic bands in the hair section. You get like 30 in a little package in pretty colors. I get the small ones that allow me 3 turns on one 'top tail' . Stays in forever. Slides right off without loosing hair or cutting. I'm on the same band with each girl since I bought the package a couple weeks ago. It's what I use for everyday. I assume they are elastic, they are a little thick, looked 'wrapped' and have no metal parts, you can see one 'joint'. They have very little stretch, which is why they stay in and last so long, but because they are smooth coated, when you pull straight up on them, grabbing all the loops at once, they will slide right off. Fortunately, the girls lack of opposable thumbs is preventing them from, so far, getting them off each other. I say 30 because I don't remember how many.

| I too have the same problem with Zhoie's hair. I finally went back to cutting her half visor. meaning it's cut only to the middle of each eye not all the way across. I only put a half top knot in if I want a bow or colored band in for going somewhere. It's seems to work well for both of us. She hated taking her hair down at night and then having it hang down over her face. And I hated seeing her tilt her head back to look at me, lol. Plus the hair in her eyes make them water so much.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I have some really good non-latex grooming bands in my store, the same kind I attach to my bows. I think the secret is to find the correct size for the thickness of the top-knot, you should only have to double it once. Darcy's hair is thicker, and I can slide the end of my comb under the bands and slide it up & off without loosing much, if any hair. If she has rubbed her head or worked the band in, or it looks like it may hurt her, i just slide a comb under it to pull it away from her hair, then snip the band off. I agree with everyone else, if your baby had a topknot, you do have to keep the hair up, it makes me feel sorry for her and scared she may run in to something with her hair blocking her vision. |

| What kind of bands do you use? You need to use grooming bands, not the cheap bands you can get at Walmart, etc. They need to be tiny, too, so you only need to double them. 1/4" or 5/16" is best. I sell them on my website, but would be happy to send you some to try for free. Try spraying a little in Bailey's hair first. That will make it easier to get the bands out. |

Do you mean spray a conditioning spray before removing the bands? I have bands, but have to wrap them many times around Bailey's hair, so you can get them really tiny? I am so clueless

| Darlene, here pic of Zhoie with the half visor I cut. It's in need of a trim now. I just use my thinning shears to do it.

| It is Goody gentle mini elastic band. I normally have no problem getting pics or thumbnails attached but darned if I cannot get it put in here, I have tried and tried. Go to Target.com in the search type Goody, that's all. When you get the response go to page 3, very lowest right hand corner pkg of 17 for 2 dollars. I got a mix of light and dark pink at Wal mart, but that is what I am using. No damage or breakage and reusable.
