| estimate adult weight... Yoni went to the vet today and he weighs 3.2lbs (he is 11 weeks old). Is this large for an 11 week old yorkie? Will he be a "teapot"??? To be honest, it doesn't matter how big he is. I love him to death and wouldn't trade him for the world. I'm just interested. Both of his parents are around 7lbs, so that is what I was expecting... but I guess you never know. He's amazing, though, so the bigger he is... the more to love! Has anyone had a puppy who you thought would be large/small full grown but then it surprised you? |

| I think it is so hard to know since some grow early and stop, then others keep growing. It sounds like he might be around the 7 pounds like his parents though, give or take a pound or two. LOL Would love to see pictures of him.

| The general rule of thumb is to take their 12 week weight and double it. However, not all dogs follow this rule... you really cannot know their adult weight until well... they are adults!

| Gatsby followed the chart perfect.... to be a 9 or 10 pound dog. He is 6 i cant remember how much he weighed at 12 weeks but it was just after that he started gaining weight like crazy then at about 6 months he just stopped. well not quite he was about 5 1/2 then then he got sick lost weight and when he got better he ended up 6 pounds now he is more like 6 pounds 2 ounces.

| Mine was 3.4 oz at 12 weeks. Vet said she wasn't overweight because I was really concerned about it too because of medical problems. But her parents are between 5 and 7 lbs. So think your little one will be about 7 lbs too.

YT 500 Club Member | wow i read that as 3.4 oz not 3 pounds 4 oz i was thinking TINY! thats what i get for reading posts at midnight. Both my girls are very different Penny was 2.2 pounds at 9 weeks old she is now almost 7 months and 5.8 to 6.0 pounds Sienna is 10 weeks and 1 and a half pounds a half pound smaller then her big sister at a week older so im guessing Sissy ( Sienna ) will be on the small side there wonderfully different my girls!

| It really is hard to predict...I think only a breeder who has done this for years and really knows her lines can know. Rily was charting around 6 lbs (2.13 @ 12 weeks) but he blew the chart away and @ 14 months he is 9.5. Saydee, however, was larger than Rily @ 12 weeks and was charting to be around 8 pounds....she seems to have stopped @ 6.5 since she hasn't grown since the end on January. My new one, Minnie, is charting to be 2 pounds, but her breeder says she could get to 3 or 3.5 pounds. I love the fact that I have a large, medium and small....I love them all! I agree with the poster that said you won't know until they are adults. My friend has a little girl that seemed to stop growing at 6 months and 5 pounds, but now at 17 months she grew again and is 8 pounds...you never know.
