| My poor teddy got caught in some ants... I felt soo horrible yesterday... I am such a bad mommy, I let my poor little teddy get into some ants yesterday. We were outside and before I knew it he had ants on him. I rushed him inside, and tried to get them off of his face as fast as possible. He even threw up! I still feel bad....He's doing okay, though, I took him a bath, and he was back to his playful self. Has this happened to anyone else? |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Poor Baby !!! It can really happen FAST...the ants are vicious in Texas and I walk my yard ALL the time because we do have a bad fire-ant problem .... but sometimes you can't even see the mound and they swarm so fast...I just know you acted quickly and saved him.... As long as he only threw up and showed no signs of shock or allergic reaction I bet he'll be ok...He may have been upset because he knew YOU were upset..... they sure are nasty little things...I HATE them more than anything else in my yard....I hope your little guy is ok - now you can go murder some ants... |

| Awwwwe, poor baby. Tiah just did the same thing about a week ago. Got into the cat food outside and had ants biting the crap out of her mouth/lips. I rinsed them out of her mouth and had to pull them off of her snout. She scratched at her face for about 45 minutes. Were the ants all over Teddy or on his face only? So glad to hear he is ok now |

| I've never had that happen but I'm sure just about everyone has had something happen that they feel guilty about. Just the other day I accidently smacked Gus in the face with a toy. I felt so bad - he was afraid to play. You're not a bad mom - stuff happens. Glad Teddy is feeling better.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Poor thing! That happened to Gracie once but they were only on her feet. She would jump in the air like 2 feet and I was like...wtf? Then I realized what they were. Swatting, water, everything to get those rascals off.

I Love Thor Donating Member | That happened to THor a few months ago. It was terrible and I felt so bad. He was laying in a red ants nest. They bit him all over his face and he started acting really weird. I didn't know what was going on at that point so I picked him up and the ants started biting me!! I got him inside and brushed off a ton of ants and he face swelled up so much. I called the vet because I was so panicked (after hours vet) and she told me to bring him in to the could get him started on an IV! I was like what? I think she was just trying to get my $$, I thought an IV was a bit excessive! So I just watched him carefully and by the morning his swelling had gone down. It was scary but now I don't feel bad about killing red ants! Hannah |

| I had this happen to Baili a while ago. She actually had the little bumps from there bites around her eye. We went to the vet and they told me to give her 1/2 of a Children's benadryl tablet 2-3 times a day, for a couple days. It might make her a bit sleep but will keep the itching down and they bites would heal faster. Hope this helps

| I'm glad you baby is ok. I haven't even thought about ants and my Chloe would be a yard dog if I let her, she just loves it outside. Don't you hate it when something happens to them, I'm constantly stumbling over Lacey, one day I accidentally locked Chloe in the bathroom. She just loved that. |

| Jo got bit by fire ants shortly after we moved into our new house...his little face swelled up to about 3 times it's normal size within about a minute. I knew Benadryl would help but then I got scared because he got bit on the face and I was afraid it might make his throat swell from a reaction or something so we rushed him to the vet. He gave him a shot of something and a shot of Benadryl and the swelling went away almost immediately. He said the next time it happened just give him the Benadryl and he would be fine. Since then we decided to have a fenced, concrete patio put in for him and Riley so we don't have to worry about the ants and we watch them very close when we go for walks. |

| I'm glad Teddy is Ok. We have ants out here, but not red ants. When I find a lot of ants I use Baby Powder to get rid of them. That's what they used at the school I worked for, and it works. For some reason ants don't like baby powder. You might want to give that a try.

| The cure for ants in your yard is beneficial nematodes. They are microorganisms that you spray on the yard and they eat the ant eggs from the nest in the ground. I've been using them for 5 years now, and haven't had an ant bed in the yard since I started using them. You can get the beneficial nematodes at any plant nursery that sells organic products - at least you can get them in Texas. It's too late to put them down now, you do it in the spring and they work all summer and fall and they keep the ants (especially fire ants) away. I'm not sure if they are widely available in other states??? If the winters are real cold, they will die - and you will have to put them down every spring. But in central and south Texas they will survive the winters and I only have to put them on the yard every 3 years or so. They eat flea eggs too, so you won't have any fleas in your yard either! Of course, that doesn't mean that your baby won't get fleas from walks or other pets.
