| update on and pics of the new furbaby!!! ok, y'all know i'm just getting started.... first, she barked for the first time just a moment ago ... she had been completely quiet from last night and her foster mom said she only barked when the cat was eating her food (LOL) but now i know she barks at other times too!! i live in an apartment and when she heard noise outside today, she went nuts!!! there's always noise out there b/c i'm right by the elevator, but she must have been too out of it last night!! the guard dog has kicked in!!! so i immediately gave her the cesar millan "shsst!" noise and she instantly got quiet ... then i praised her for being silent ... is that right?!? so today has been a good day, i took her out this morning and she went to the bathroom (i think i told you about that in my last post). when we came back, she was doing her thing and i went to the bathroom for like a MINUTE and in that little time she had a #2 accident. i thought that was it, but she had a #1 accident all the way across the room. but she hadn't been drinking, so i almost missed it b/c there was so little liquid. i actually stepped in it right before i got in the shower UGH ... i cleaned them both up with nature's miracle. other than first thing in the morning and at night, how often do you take an adult dog out to get them housebroken?!? so i had a meeting with some ladies and i took her with me ... she was really good. it was a 2 hour meeting and i only took her out once b/c she was acting like she had to go, but then she wouldn't go when i took her out. she was a little shaky at first, but then very friendly with the girls, very sociable and outgoing. she was a big hit with the group!! i found out then that i couldn't get her to drink water, but she does like ice!! she will even crunch the pieces and eat them when they get small. she does car rides really well. she sits in her outward hound car seat, which sits up in the passenger seat so that she can see out, but is still protected. i just put down a blanket and secure her and she can lay down or look around if she wants. i put the top down and she seemed to really like it!!! now i need some little tiny sunglasses for her and hopefully she'll be set!!! as we rode, i was totally wondering if i needed doggie sunscreen for her!!! california sun is intense so we got home and then i took her for a walk. this time, she went down the steps better than this morning. first i let her go "hurry up" (my word for potty) and she did #1, but she must be just about out of #2 b/c she's gone 3 times and she hasn't eaten anything .... anyway, we started our walk and i had the opposite problem that i see from most people --- she was resisting me and pulling back from behind me, not trying to walk forward!!! i don't think she's ever been walked on a leash before, so she clearly didn't know what to do. i just kept going ... at first, i was almost dragging her down the street, but by the end (about 30 mins later), she had started to get the hang of it and i wasn't dragging her nearly so much ... everytime she walked right near me, i praised her ... a couple of times, she got ahead of herself and wanted to lead me, but i gently tugged her leash, gave her the cesar "shsst!!" and she got right back in line and highly praised i stopped once to give her ice, but she took one lick and was done with it. when we got home, i wiped her little paws with a wet wipe and she was fine with it. she's so good with that and allowing me to put her clothes and harness on. she doesn't protest at all... she doesn't seem to like the linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom (join the club, i don't either LOL), but her food and water are in the kitchen, so she is venturing in there more and more, but if she hears me approach, she comes running out ... i get the impression she doesn't want to feel boxed in, so i try not to go check on her when i see her walking in there b/c i really want her to eat ... i think she ate a little, i just need to go check.... ok, here's something else: she STINKS!!!! she was just groomed yesterday and you would think she had been dirt diving since then!!! i can't take it!!! how frequently can i bathe her?!? the groomer told her foster mom that she had a little fungus on her back and it looks like she has dandruff there. she told me to put a mixture of vinegar and water on it and let it dry. could the skin condition be causing that smell?!? maybe it's her food, she's on cesar right now. i know it's garbage, but i'm going to switch her over slowly, don't want to move too fast.... does anyone wash their baby's face every day??! what do you use?!? her hair gets a bit crazy on her face and forehead.... PLEASE help with that, when MY nose picks up a smell, you know it's baaaaaad finally, PICS are attached (i hope)!!! i know you've been anxiously waiting!!! these pics don't completely represent how she looks in person, but i do notice a few things about her. first, she has some white in her face and she kinda reminds me of a bandit about the eyes! the vet record i got lists her as yorkie, but i'm not so sure b/c of her coloring ... what do you guys think?!? do you think she's mixed with anything? |

| She's so cute! As soon as you two settle in, we're so planning a play date! I'll start scouting places nearby. Wait.... I need to give you tips too. For washing her face, a warm towel helps. It softens eye gunk so it's easy for you to take it out. I also use puppy wipes for Kaji's feet and his Mr Peeper. You could use those to wipe her down as well. I don't know about the fungus on her back but I'm sure others will know.

| She's just adorable. You're going to have to let her hair grow so she won't have to wear sweaters all summer. To housebreak her, you will need to do it just as you would a new puppy. Take her out every 20 minutes or so, especially so with her because she's so tiny. Good luck!

| thanks everyone!!! i think she is just adorable, her pics don't do her justice ... she has the most soulful eyes ... she's perfect for me!! more updates: she's eating!!! i had to coax her to the bowl b/c she doesn't like to come into the kitchen yet ... she'll come in a few steps and then prance backwards, come in, prance back.... so i mashed up her food and then i held the bowl in one hand and got on the floor. she wouldn't take food out of my hand yesterday, but i was hoping she would be hungry and do it today. she licked it off my fingers. i took one step back towards the bowl and encouraged. she came and licked. one more back. she came. licked. pranced back. finally, i got far enough to put the bowl in the holder and she pranced back, so i dug out a little food and gave it to her a couple more times. then i put it on the edge of the bowl. she pushed it on the floor and ate it from there. then she put her head in the bowl and little and snatched it out and pranced back a few steps. i encouraged her. she came and did it a couple more times, taking the food and dropping it on the floor. once the bowl moved and she took off!! she seems a bit afraid of the bowl, i wonder what's up with that?!? anyway, she ate enough for me to know that she knows where the food is and she's not gonna starve LOL!!! so i got up from the floor and she took off again ... but she since went in the kitchen on her own and ate some more, so i'm happy.... should i just leave food out for her all day or put her on a schedule of eating?!? also, she used her pee pad!!! she was pee-pad trained in the other house, so once i have her going outside on a regular schedule, i may just take up the pee pads ... it's not a lot of urine, but i don't know if i like that in the house in general we'll see.... |

| thank you!!! for the time being, i'm calling her typsy (she came to me with the name gypsy, but she looked all discombobulated when i met her, hence the name typsy) ... not sure if i'll keep that name, though, i'm happy to hear suggestions.... i'm not sure how old she is ... i've heard everything between 2 and 5+ ... when i take her to the vet, i'll be able to narrow it down.... |
