| Dorkies Does anyone here have a dorkie? I'm thinking about getting one and would like to know what they're like. Do they shed or are they like yorkies in that dept? Just curious. |

| Whether or not they shed would depend on which trait the dog inherited that from. It's not going to be the same result every single time so there is no real "answer" for that. |

| I don't know anything about Dorkies. Is this a cross between a Yorkie & a Dacshound? (wiener dog) I just wanted to know what kind of coat your little one is wearing in your Avatar? It looks nice, is it a rain cape? |

| Yes they are a doxie and yorkie cross. I saw an ad in the paper this morning . I'll call to see about the parents. Thanks for the compliment on the coat! It is a little rain coat DH bought for Neo last summer. Unfortunately, he outgrew it and I gave it to my SIL for her baby (who happens to be Neo"s older and smaller half bro). Check out J.B. Pets for this coat. The price is great! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I hope you consider a rescue if you are thinking about this, like Misty said. there's no way to know which qualities the offspring will inherit. That's why breeders breed purebreds; they are trying to limit the gene pool so that they can predict results of offspring. When you add a whole new gene pool you can get any combination. With an adult rescue you will know what you are getting though.

| Most puppies are cute when they are...first born and still a puppy. I can't imagine a cross between these two breeds looking adorable full grown, and because of the huge variance in their body and facial structure, ears, hair and genetic issues, I would not recommend supporting anyone who breeds them buy purchasing one of their puppies.

All I can imagine is a puppy who will end up with bad knees, hips and spine, sheds with strange ears full grown.

| Was this an accidental breeding or on purpose? Like some of the others I don't think this is a good mix. There is nothing to be gained or improved by mixing these 2, and from what I've seen on some web sites, they pretty much look like the undistinguishible pups that fill the shelters. If this is what you are looking for then you should indeed look into a rescue. I'll try to post a couple pics I found:

She was kind of cute, though...and very loved. Also, she was carrying her because she had problems walking!!! I think she was about 6 or 7.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | The shelter i fostered a pom pup from when they took in dogs from an auction of puppymill that was going out of business got 2 dorkies. They were about 6-8 months old and in my opinion not very cute. They both looked different than each other and were for the same litter. So if you are set on getting one I would look at rescues.

| My son has 2 Dachshund/Chihuahua mixes. I'm not clear on how he got them (I think through a friend of his wife) but he didn't buy them. Anyway, Prissie is very much like a large Chi, but heavier. She seems perfectly healthy and is very athletic. Roxie looks more like a Dachshund and her rear legs are very bowed. I didn't notice it when he got he got her as a pup but now that she's about 2 years old it's very noticeable. I know that poor girl is going to have serious problems as she ages.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Are you still interested? I know of a sweet little 3year old Yorkie/ Daschund mix that has been used as a breeder and has been rescued by one of our members. She gets along well with other dogs, but is still afraid of humans; let me know if you're interested.
