| Dumb Grooming Question? Is it the norm that when your dog goes to the groomer - even when you have an early a.m. appointment time - he/she will wind up being there all day? My baby has been to 2 different groomers (Petsmart and a private business) and ended up staying at least 4-5 hours or more! He is so strung out by the time I pick him up he won't leave my lap even when I drive home. He is an "only child" and is used to more quiet than at the groomers. Am I being overprotective? |

| A lot of groomers do this because they can do more dogs in one day, likely your dog isnt being worked on straight through. I will only use groomers that do my dogs and then send them home. Armani was usually at the groomer less then 2 hours, now with Chloe they are there a little longer because she does both of them before she sends them home... but I usually drop them off around 9 or 10 and always pick them up around lunch time. I dont mind one of them sitting the crate while the other is groomed but there is no need for them to sit in a crate all day while other peoples dogs are done.

| I've only had this experience when it came to Petsmart grooming. Since then, we only go to small business groomers and the amount of time Ariel spends there is MUCH less. The groomer we have now finishes everything in 1-2 hours. |

Daisy she is 6 yrs old and I leave her but I have the groomer call me as soon as she is done, and I make my appointment the first one around 8:30 am and I usually get a call around 9:30-10:00. I am protective as well, but it is for their safety and my sanity!! lol

| Zeus has never stayed more than 2 hours. We have been to three different groomers. I always look for a groomer who doesn't crate them either so maybe that's why they are in and out. |

| My groomer requests to have them for 4 hrs., but usually calls to say they are ready in 2. I'm hoping to take all 4 furgirls in at the same time (for the first time) soon. It will be first groom for my 2 youngest. Expensive, but then I do maintenance for many months.

| I looked around until I found a place that will allow me to drop off and pick up as soon as they are done. Now that I have 2 dogs, I drop one off then when she's ready I swap. They are never crated. I take a book and wait in the car. I know a lot of places don't allow for this, but I called around until I found a place that will work with me.

| My babies are there about 2-3 hours usually... But, at our groomer, they aren't crated. All the dogs get to walk around and play while they aren't being worked on. So, Rex & Rudy love it there!

| Some groomers offer a 2 hour service. At my salon, we never keep a dog for more than 2 hours unless the owner wants us to due to their busy schedule. Look in your yellow pages and call some local groomers. I have been grooming for 20+ years, and have ALWAYS done 2 hour service. It is too stressfull for most dogs to have to be caged up all day with barking dogs in a hectic shop...and if your dog is acting like it really is bothered by it, then try to find a groomer who will work with you to make the stay a lot shorter. | My groomers are used to finicky owners, but they're really absolute GOLD with the pups. Sometimes I take them in individually; other times they go together. They're usually only there for 2-3 hours. They don't want you to stay because the dogs act differently (Mommy! MOMmy! MOMMYYYYYY!) - kinda like when your skinkid stays overnight somewhere and the mom there tells you what a wonderfully helpful and well behaved kid you have there (where? Where? MY kid????) They're a little more expensive than taking them to PetSmart, but I would never take Bella there, anyway (she's got long hair), but the extra few $$$ is worth it. The dogs are happy to come home, but are never stressed. They're loved and pampered at the groomer, and they know it. So, even though I wouldn't think twice about leaving them there, the groomer wouldn't want them there much longer than it takes me to pick them up. |

| Most groomers do keep them 4 to 5 hours unless you ask for the rush service and you have to pay more for it but that is what I do for Callie. Callie has never been left alone if I have to go somewhere either my grandpa or my mom watches her. Even just being left for an hour at the groomer stresses her (they take her back and groom her right when I drop her off and then call me right when shes done and I am always right across the street shopping when she is being groomed I like to stay close), when I get her back shes so worn out she sleeps most of the day and makes sure I am always in her sight.
